ABOUT THE FLOCK

The Head of Medical and Scientific Information, Severe Genetic Diseases (SGD), will report to bluebird bio's VP of Medical Affairs and be the primary point person for Medical Information as well as Scientific Information, with the latter broadly encompassing intelligence gathering (from external medical sources and interactions) and internal information dissemination. With two potential, transformative gene therapies launching in the US in the next year and with a third gene therapy potentially launching in the year after that, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that our Medical Information function is prepared to handle the anticipated increase in unsolicited medical inquiries through a structured process and with scientifically robust information responses. Furthermore, with the anticipated launches of transformative gene therapies, there will be an elevated importance for intelligence of the evolving therapeutic landscape as well as attention to excellence to ensure our scientific information processes are scalable with a growing team.

As the head of this hybrid function, you will be a key partner with the VP of Medical Affairs, as well as work closely with other medical functions (such as with Scientific Communications, the Medical Directors Office as well as with the Field Medical Affairs team of MSLs). You will primarily oversee the Medical Information function, ensure our medical team is informed of key scientific intelligence pertaining to autologous gene and SGD therapies and help support key tactics for anticipated US launches.

If you are an analytical thinker with strong scientific communication skills, have significant industry experiences in medical affairs and want to be part of the medical team that launches up to three transformative gene therapies in the next few years, look no further...this role is for you so flock on over to check it out!

HOW YOU'LL FLY

As the Head of Medical and Scientific Information, you will report to the VP of Medical Affairs, and help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:

  • Helping to further develop, evolve and ultimately lead a Medical Information team to address the external inquiries for Medical Information that will come from our key scientific stakeholders worldwide. As part of this role, you will design a scalable solution that can account for demand over time and set up a process that will ensure development of high quality, scientifically robust, medically relevant responses, which follow all legal and regulatory guidelines.

  • Partnering closely with the Clinical Development, Pharmacovigilance, Patient Advocacy, RWE and Medical Affairs teams to ensure prioritized, escalated information requests are answered in a timely manner and/or triaged appropriately to a subject matter expert and addressed with a medical interaction. Examples of scientific materials you may help develop include Standard Response Letters, customized responses, patient friendly FAQ responses, training material and insight reports based on Medical Information activity.

  • Keeping abreast of and summarizing for the broader organization external, relevant intelligence on scientific developments in the gene therapy and SGD spaces via Scientific Information review (for example monitoring of investor calls and press releases) and/or via direct medical interactions.

  • Supporting key medical activities to ensure excellence in our ability to procure, curate and disseminate medical and scientific information throughout the broader organization.

  • Embodying an agile mindset that prioritizes those medical activities that are most crucial to the medical success of the organization through a strong collaborative and detail-oriented work-ethic.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

You're the bird we're looking for if you have:

  • An Advanced Degree (PharmD, PhD or MD) in biological sciences or other area of life sciences required

  • 5+ years of experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company with at least 3 years in a Scientific Communication and/or Medical Information and/or Medical Director function required

  • Significant experience working with key, external HCPs and/or with internal medical/scientific subject matter experts on the development of manuscript and/or other scientific content development
