The Director will assure that Pike Engineering is increasing market share and market penetration in their assigned geographic division through continual customer service and secondary marketing. The Director is charged with driving quality, consistency, and continuous improvement across the organization in an effort to exceed customer expectations and maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction. This position normally has several profit centers and is charged with building an effective leadership team in each profit center. The Director is accountable for the financial performance and overall operational excellence of their assigned profit centers. The incumbent functions as a senior level managerial role, expected to be capable of performing or overseeing completion of complex engineering designs and calculations, both utility scope and non-regulated scope behind the meter on client premises. This position will be expected to provide oversight to the professional engineer in charge and manage project teams as well as a group of subordinates. This position will also include significant client interface responsibilities and will be expected to provide project management input and oversight.
Personnel responsibilities include carrying out such programs as affirmative action, training, performance appraisal, compensation, employee recruiting, succession planning, and adherence to standards of conduct.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage profit center resources to attain target financial results by:
Identifying growth opportunities within the relevant markets and securing/maintaining a backlog of work
Setting competitive prices for the services offered that yield acceptable margins for the profit center
Managing resources and controlling costs to effectively deliver the services
Maintaining efficient service delivery processes that ensure safe operations and quality work products
Analyzing financial results on an ongoing basis, explaining variance from plan/budget and taking corrective action as required
Provide management leadership to ensure the availability of a skilled, qualified, and motivated workforce by:
Displaying effective leadership skills in motivating, rewarding, and assisting individuals through the use of innovative techniques and effective management systems
Ensuring that individuals have the training, tools, personal equipment, work environment, and technical support to optimize their performance and achieve desired results

Manage the portfolio of technical disciplines within the specific engineering & design area and alter the technical capabilities of the department to or in anticipation of changing market conditions

Provide technical leadership to ensure that all specific engineering services are provided per applicable professional codes and standards by:
Providing technical direction to project teams on complex multi-disciplined projects
Developing and maintaining engineering standards, work practices, and systems
Adhering to established QA/QC principles, policies and procedures
Maintaining knowledge of the engineering and technical industry codes, standards, and best practices
Developing and maintaining knowledge or the current and future enablers, systems, and applications available in the industry to ensure continuous improvement
Ensure that client relations are properly maintained, and Pike Engineering’s market reputation is enhanced by providing:
Coaching and mentoring of other professionals
Management of the project in accordance with Pike Policies and Procedures
Management of the client and project stakeholders, ensuring effective business relationships are in place and trusted by all
All aspects of contract negotiation, change order identification, submittal and approval, administration, establishing the system to carry out the contract including management of subcontractors
Project reporting and status for the project team, management, and client
Review of project financials reports to project accounting with adequate backup for management, internal and external accounting and/or SOX requirements
Review of financial controls to ensure project profitability and expected cash flow positions
Accurate invoices to ensure timely issuance and payment
Develop, assess, and report on the business development approach, ensuring the strategic objectives are well understood and implemented by the team
Lead the team in sourcing, managing, and implementing new business opportunities and office functions
Ensure business growth through business development activities to ensure these are delivered in accordance with the organizational mission
Ensure appropriate estimating/risk management input is provided for all business proposals and contract negotiations. Actively involved in creating proposals for new opportunities and extending current contract terms and scope
Adhere to and help advance Pike Engineering corporate safety policy
Ensure administrative duties are carried out in accordance with company policy
REQUIREMENTS:
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
The incumbent will incorporate the concepts of good leadership, management, marketing, recruiting, project administration, and public relations to enhance the position of Pike Engineering in the industry. The incumbent must also possess a comprehensive knowledge of work governed by the NESC as well as the NEC and be familiar with applicable codes and work rules applying to this scope. The incumbent must be able to communicate clearly in writing, in person and, over the telephone with all employees, various levels of client management, Pike Engineering management and with the general public.

Serve as a leader in storm restoration efforts
Education, Licensing, and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Business from an accredited college or university or 10+ years of leadership experience in the utility industry
Significant experience in the electric utility industry
Desired Qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer
PMP Certification
Graduate business degree
Significant experience in electrical power systems engineering related to planning, designing, and operating T&D systems
Considerable experience with overhead to underground electric distribution conversions
