In this job, every day you will...

1. Design a creative and exciting life enrichment program to meet group and individual needs taking into consideration the interests of the residents.

2. Plan and implement life enrichment calendar each month that includes life skills, education, wellness, recreational, and spiritual programming. Provides a calendar for each resident, his or her families, and friends. Posts calendars throughout the facility.

3. Provide one-to-one programming for residents who cannot participate in a group setting.

4. Coordinate the holiday decorations with the help of residents and coordinates the volunteers to help with events. Coordinates the help of other staff as necessary to bring residents to and from activities/events.

5. Maintains life enrichment budget, equipment, and supplies.

6. Participates in the review of plan of care and documents life enrichment progress every six months or when there is a significant change in the resident.

7. Coordinates quarterly special events that includes residents, families, friends and the community at large.

8. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers.

Education Experience you need to qualify:

* Must have 2 or more years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years working with older adults OR Qualified Occupational Therapist or Assistant.

* Basic PC and Word Processing Software required.

* Valid commercial Class B driver's license and access to a private vehicle for business use.

* High School diploma or equivalent.

* You will need to complete a state certified activities training program or having one or more years of direct programming experience with older adults is helpful.

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

* You will need the ability to speak effectively before groups of residents, staff and volunteers.

Ways you can advance beyond the Activities Director role:

Once you master this role, you could consider the Life Enrichment Director (assisted living), Administrator in Training (AIT) program, Executive Director (assisted living), Central Supply Coordinator, or other higher level clinical jobs (Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, etc.) with higher levels of education.
