On January 11, 2021, we announced our intent to separate our severe genetic disease and oncology businesses into differentiated and independent publicly traded companies. We will retain focus on severe genetic disease (SGD) and will launch our oncology business ("Oncology Newco") as a new entity, with the completed transition expected by the end of 2021.

ABOUT THE FLOCK


The Vector Characterization team uses state-of-the-art techniques to advance understanding of lentiviral vector structure and function. bluebird bio seeks an Associate Scientist to support programs in the oncology field. As Associate Scientist of Vector Characterization, you'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by performing analytical testing to advance product quality understanding and support development of next-generation analytical technologies. We are looking for motivated candidates to work collaboratively and take initiative on important characterization projects, with the ultimate goal to deliver therapies that transform the lives of patients.


In this role you will soon join our new Oncology spinoff, 2seventy bio, where we are excited to continue leading the charge on Oncology cell therapy research. HOW YOU'LL FLY


You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:



  • This is a hands-on position, requiring the independent execution of laboratory experiments.

  • Effectively collaborate cross-functionally to refine study design, obtain test materials and reagents, and discuss results and impact.

  • Perform analytical testing of lentiviral vectors and support development of new technologies for characterizing lentiviral vectors.

  • Generate, document, manage, evaluate, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner.

  • Assist in the generation and review of technical protocols and reports.

  • Manage laboratory inventory of supplies and reagents.

  • Take initiative to pursue interests towards achieving group and company goals.

  • Must be willing to have a flexible schedule based on experimental and company needs.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING


You're the bird we're looking for if you:



  • Have a BS with 1+ years of experience. Degree emphasis in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related field preferred.

  • Independently motivated, detail-oriented, with good laboratory technical skills.

  • The ability to conduct laboratory experiments, write, and review technical documentation, and the flexibility to work on multiple projects as needed.

  • Experience with particle size measurements, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, and western blotting strongly preferred.

  • Experience with any of the following a plus: liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and flow cytometry.

  • Superb organizational and communication skills, with a "do what it takes" attitude.
