Job Description SummaryPerforms preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, and repairs in all aspects of Fleet Service's vehicles and equipment owned and/or operated by the University.
Performs state inspections and maintains current license.
Schedules and/or prioritizes work to be performed within assigned area of responsibility.
Trains new auto technicians on accepted University practices for vehicle repair and maintenance.
Provides assistance making appropriate decisions pertaining to vehicle repair and new equipment/vehicle purchases.
Performs maintenance and repair on construction equipment and diesel and gasoline automobiles and trucks.
Maintains working knowledge and utilizes available diagnostic equipment; attends appropriate training.
Works with appropriate vendors to obtain parts required for repair and maintenance.
Ensures that all rental vehicles are checked in.
Maintains Fleet Services Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and other EHS requirements.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High school diploma or G.E.D with five years of specialized training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current EPA refrigerant recovery license or certification (Automotive Certification only), or obtained within three months of employment.
Current NC Inspection certification, or obtained within three months of employment.
Working knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance practices.
Ability to train new or less experienced auto technicians.
Ability to read, understand, and abide by all safety policies and procedures.
Proficiency with drivability and OBDII diagnostics and repairs.
Proficiency with A/C diagnostics and repairs.
Ability to update skill in diagnostic equipment operation and automotive maintenance and repair on a continual basis.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and other relevant software.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities.
Ability to maintain effective customer relations.
Ability to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
