Tippie College of Business (TCOB) is now accepting applications for qualified candidates for the role of Sr. HR Director.

As a forward-looking business partner supporting Tippie College of Business, the Senior HR Director will serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership and lead the development and execution of people strategies. In this role, you will be an advocate of our culture and values, partnering with senior collegiate leaders to help them build organizational capability and make data driven people decisions by collaborating with the HR functional experts in University Human Resources (UHR). You will have a strong and influential presence to the senior leadership team, advising and delivering integrated and inclusive people programs such as: succession planning / talent pipeline, organizational design & structure, change & transition management, diversity, equity & inclusion, team/culture building, compensation planning and performance calibration. Reporting to the Dean and Chief HR Officer (CHRO), you will oversee an operating budget, and lead a small team of HR professionals. Additional duties to include:

  • Lead strategic planning to influence and integrate the college's input into the enterprise Human Resources strategic plan. Design strategies to increase organization performance and collaborate with HR functional partners to execute human resources strategies to enable collegiate objectives and support future growth.
  • Facilitate and implement organization and leadership development efforts in partnership with TCOB leadership team. Provide expertise in the areas of leadership and executive team development, organization effectiveness, and building leadership capability.
  • Execute the Talent Management process to identify current and forecasted staffing needs and, in partnership with collegiate partners, develop action plans recruit and retain faculty and staff to meet collegiate objectives.
  • Provide strategic HR leadership and consultation to create innovative people programs. Anticipate and assess emerging business, organization or people/cultural trends. Identify and implement the appropriate People/Diversity, Equity & Inclusion solutions.
  • Serve as the Tippie College of Business Senior HR Leader and liaison to (UHR); represent the college in the development of university-wide HR initiatives; Serve as the TCOB Faculty HR Rep and liaison to the Office of the Provost concerning faculty HR policies and programs.
  • Create and consistently deliver timely communications regarding HR programs and initiatives to College leadership, faculty and staff.
  • Deliver HR services to senior leadership resulting in a seamless point of contact to the broader HR organization and ensuring successful integration of HR functional partner initiatives and expertise.
  • Sponsors and champions cultural and change initiatives, including employee engagement. Provides facilitation and change management consultation to senior leadership teams within the College.
  • Oversees the implementation of HR initiatives for the College. These initiatives include, but are not limited to: Succession planning, Diversity initiatives, talent acquisition, compensation, leadership development, performance management, compensation programs, and organizational design and restructuring, employee relations and reward and recognition.
  • Lead the TCOB Human Resources team including the supervision and development of a small team of HR professional staff.
  • Liaison to Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, including approving recruitment plans for faculty and P&S searches, responding to EOD data requests, monitoring compliance with EOD procedures.
  • Liaison to the Office of the Provost on faculty human resources issues and initiatives including faculty searches and faculty performance/disciplinary matters.
  • Investigates and resolve disciplinary problems and employee complaints and grievances; represent the Dean in employee grievance hearings.
  • Oversee efforts to monitor and ensure compliance with UI policies such as sexual harassment prevention education, FERPA, PTEA, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Behavior, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-10 years' experience leading or managing a full range of Human Resources responsibilities/functions in a complex and/or high-profile organization with multiple departments/units including supervision experience with professional staff.
  • Knowledge of contemporary human resource principles, practices and processes and current federal and state laws, statues, regulations, policies and directives pertaining to human resources.
  • Demonstrated expert/leader knowledge and ability to:
    • Plan and develop an organization's HR enterprise in order to increase individual and organizational effectiveness;
    • Utilize outstanding verbal, written and electronic communication skills as demonstrated by (a) tailoring messaging to various audiences; including complex and highly sensitive information, (b) managing conflicts and investigations, (c) delivery of presentations or staff training, and (d) authoring/editing formal policy language;
    • Implement effective strategies for promoting a diverse environment based on the principles of affirmative action and equal opportunity.
  • Expert ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to develop and improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to align the organization's people and culture with changes in the business strategy, organizational structure, technology and business processes.
  • Expert ability to recruit and develop the talent required for an organization to achieve its short-term and long-term goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse teams, including the ability to lead initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional human resources certification such as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM-SCP, or SHRM-CP.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational workforce planning and change management to align the workforce and culture to achieve organizational goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on, collegial and collaborative leadership style that is effective throughout all levels of the organization.
