The Virtual Hardware-in-the-Loop (VHIL) team is a highly technical, highly knowledgeable, passionate, strategic, and visionary group working on an organizational transformation. Seeking cutting-edge solutions to the question; how do we develop and validate our embedded control system without any hardware? The VHIL team is developing a 100% virtual HIL platform to do just that.

As a VHIL Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating a wide range of automated test capabilities onto the VHIL platform to support component, sub-system and vehicle level validation and development tests.


  • Lead cross-organizational teams to develop various automated test capabilities

  • Integrate automated test capabilities onto the VHIL platform

  • Integrate various specific development and validation tests onto the VHIL platform

  • Participate and eventually lead weekly VHIL Automation Product Development Team (PDT) meetings

  • Serve as development and validation test subject matter expert within VHIL team

  • Provide live demonstrations of VHIL platform capabilities to various leadership groups and outside organizations

Additional Job Description

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in software or controls development

  • Simulation and model-based development knowledge

  • Knowledge of design of embedded control systems

  • Knowledge of automotive communications (e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet and SPI)

  • Demonstrated success in leading challenging projects with high levels of ambiguity to completion

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Consistent demonstration of GM leadership behavioral competencies

Qualifications - Preferred

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science

  • Experience in software tools development

  • Familiarity with scalable simulation deployment methodologies leveraging containers (e.g. Docker, Singularity, etc.)

  • Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous event driven simulation

  • Expertise in AutoSAR and GM Cybersecurity standards

  • Experience in AutoVal, Intrepid Vehicle Spy, Vector CANoe

  • Experience with software development (C, C++, Python) build process and associated tools (e.g. Gerrit, Jenkins, Git, etc.)

  • Expertise integrating software; compiler and linker file comprehension

  • Experience with software test automation using Python scripting

  • Experience with Linux-based software development

  • Experience in SystemC
