Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week.
The Electric Drive-Embedded Systems Firmware Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and testing low level hardware input/output software. They will coordinate with engineers from areas such as requirements, controls, calibration, power electronics design, controller design, and motor design to deliver HWIO software for the world's best electrified vehicles. We are looking for creative people to join a strong team focused on innovative technology development.
Design, develop, implement, and test low level device driver modules including, but not limited to: CAN, LIN, DMA, pulse inputs, pulse outputs, digital inputs, digital outputs, analog inputs, complex PWM, eTPU, GTM.
Design and complete verification tests to ensure compliance with component technical requirements.
Provide independent review of software written by others.
Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with and mentor others.
Exhibit a high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and difficult.
Additional Job Description
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
Minimum 5 years' experience in embedded software development utilizing ANSI C programming
Experience with designing, developing and testing Microcontroller & ECU Abstraction Layer and Complex Drivers for Automotive Open System Architecture
Ability to read schematics and understand basic electrical circuits
Experience developing software for the NXP MPC5777C and Renesas RH850 microcontrollers or similar
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) for multi-core microcontroller
Experience with coding in PowerPC assembly or similar
Experience with performing root cause analysis with Integrated Basic Software and Application Software on multi-core microcontrollers
Proficiency with embedded compiler, linker, debugging tools, and software such as Lauterbach, ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, oscilloscopes, and other general lab equipment
Proven ability to work independently under a tight, demanding schedule
Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
