The Research Assistant contributes with research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. Further, the Research Assistant performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities.

Department Specific Functions

General Description (Purpose and Function):

Under general direction, assists the Research Coordinator or other research investigators by performing research and experimentation support following established protocols.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets-up and conducts research participant study visits.

  • Trains research participants in study exercises as per protocol.

  • Performs various clerical duties including data entry, contacting potential/current research participants, assisting participants with questionnaires, preparing correspondence, and completing applications and forms.

  • Assists with research participant recruitment for primary study and sub-studies.

  • Prepares and maintains research charts and project documents.

  • Orders laboratory and clerical supplies as needed.

  • Assists in screening process.

  • Attends study meetings and maintains meeting attendee list.

  • Reviews study documentation.

  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups as requested.

  • Records research procedures and results. Maintains records, codes data for input for electronic data processing inputs and retrieves data electronically.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Background in exercise physiology preferred.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  • Detailed orientated.

  • Ability to maintain records and inventories.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • High School Education. Bachelors degree preferred.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • One year of relevant work experience. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
