Summary: Tetra Tech has a position for a Senior Restoration Ecologist based in Lander, Wyoming to support and expand our Colorado-based Mine Permitting and Closure Group. We are seeking a highly experienced individual interested in supporting existing projects and developing new opportunities in a challenging, competitive, and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will work with Principal and Project Scientists, Engineers, and Project Managers to successfully execute existing ecological and soil conservation, restoration, and management projects, and will be expected to collaborate and develop programs and initiatives to secure additional work within the mining, oil and natural gas, transportation, or energy sectors.

Your Role:


  • Plant taxonomy and ecology
  • Qualitative/quantitative vegetation monitoring and data compilation, analysis and interpretation
  • Noxious and invasive weed management analysis, options evaluation, planning, permitting, and weed control and eradication activity management, oversight, and reporting
  • Soil erosion and conservation, and channel and slope stability monitoring and data compilation, analysis and interpretation
  • Ecological restoration, mitigation and reclamation site reconnaissance, analysis, options evaluation, planning, permitting, design, and construction oversight and reporting
  • Physical, chemical, and environmental hazard recognition, assessment and reporting
  • Environmental compliance and monitoring document and report preparation
  • Verbal and written communications and close collaboration with clients, colleagues, private landowners, construction contractors, private consultants, non-governmental and conservation agencies, regulatory authorities, and project stakeholders
  • Staff and office management
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Restoration Ecology, Rangeland Ecology, or Soil Science
  • 15-20 years of ecological, soil conservation and reclamation experience
  • Advanced understanding of p lant taxonomy and ecology, ecological restoration, reclamation, soil science and weed management
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: site and geomorphic grading and earthworks design; cover designs and soil, plant and plant root interrelationships; surface water hydrology and channel and soil stabilization methods; light and heavy earthwork construction, seeding and seedbed preparation methods and equipment; mining methods; mine hazard closure; contract document and technical specification preparation; geology and geochemistry.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or its applications, and field tablet applications and operations is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to summarize and statistically analyze scientific data and site reconnaissance information in concise, readable language
  • An ability to solve complex ecological, reclamation and soil issues
  • An understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory programs and permitting requirements
  • Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft-based software, including MS Excel for data analysis and MS Word for report preparation.
  • Budgeting, human resource administration and management, and development and execution of operating plans.
  • Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are absolutely required.
  • The position will require office, staff, and project management, travel and performance of physically demanding field work typically related to environmental monitoring and sampling, site reconnaissance and construction oversight.
