Attorney (Litigation)



Position Summary:


Daikin Applied is seeking a highly qualified general litigation attorney with strong knowledge of the law and the ability to deal tactfully with matters across a variety of subject matter areas. This attorney will provide support on general litigation, claims disputes and investigations (including but not limited to commercial, product liability, personal injury, construction, and employment).


The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working on litigation, claims, disputes and investigations and enjoy problem solving and operating in a fast-paced, matrixed business environment. Experience with manufacturing and/or construction is a plus. The successful candidate will be a tactful, practical, well-organized, highly-motivated self-starter, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.



  • Supports senior Legal Department colleagues with pending litigation, claims, disputes, and investigations.

  • Issues and supervises legal holds through on-line system.

  • Collaborates with claims adjusters, risk management, insurers, external counsel and internal business and functional teams.

  • Counsels and collaborates with business and functional colleagues to investigate and handle claims and resolve potential disputes.

  • Manages and responds to subpoenas.

  • Interprets and refines policies and guidelines.

  • Drafts letters, reports and other documentation.

  • Develops and provides training on various topics to company personnel.

  • Offers clear and effective counsel on a variety of legal issues.

  • Works collaboratively and effectively with Legal Department colleagues and alongside other departments within the company.

  • Anticipates, researches, and communicates regarding legal issues that could impact the company.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Education/Experience:


Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar of the State of Minnesota. At least 5 years' experience handling general litigation and claims matters is required. The ideal candidate will have a combination of law firm and in-house experience. Experience with manufacturing and/or construction is a plus.


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Professional. Experience in using Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker law firm invoicing and approval and matter management system and Microsoft Teams is a plus. Other important skills include:



  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Strong drafting skills and attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain positive relationships with others at all levels inside and outside the company

Active admission to the bar in the State of Minnesota.
