Job Overview:

The Scrum Master II is responsible for providing Agile facilitation and coaching to 1-2 Agile teams to ensure the teams adopt and maintain high performing Agile delivery practices, and realize the value intended.

This role supports the following PMO service offerings:

Responsibilities:

The Scrum Master II works closely with Delivery Coordinators, and Release Train Engineers. This role reports directly to the Solution Train Engineer.


  • Ensure the team follows standard Agile processes while identifying opportunities for improvement.


  • Facilitate team in defining Working Agreements, Definition of Ready, Definition of Done and then ensures those agreements are upheld.


  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies: daily stand-up (scrum) meetings, retrospectives, demos, backlog grooming / refinement, backlog sizing, sprint planning and team engagement.


  • Identify and help to remove impediments, escalate impediments to the product and solutions manager, recommend ways to resolve impediments, and influence leadership to act on these recommendations.


  • Help team inspect and adapt process through retrospectives, data / metrics tracking, and creating a safe, trusting environment with space to grow.


  • Coaching the team to higher levels of performance.


  • Assist with internal and external communication and improving transparency by creating visible information radiators (burn-downs, velocity chart, etc.), dashboards, and demos.


  • Provide metric reports to assist in product roadmap planning.


  • Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work directly.


  • Observe team interactions and use emotional intelligence to discuss observations in a safe, trusting environment.


  • Support product planning by participating in release planning discussions.


  • Support execution through understanding of priority and sequencing required to deliver efficiently.


  • Guide team in commitment making and sprint completion.


  • Hold team (Product, Development, QA, and team members) accountable for delivery commitments.


  • Help team identify when commitments are at risk and assist team with solutioning to ensure commitments are met.


  • Be an agile subject matter expert and provide strategic influence with the product / business and other engineering organizations.


  • Ensure team's backlogs are always sufficiently full (at minimum 3-4 sprints worth of work defined).


  • Practice servant-leadership and promote learning in others by building relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, communicating information, and providing advice to drive efforts forward.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of product or project development experience, or 2 years of project development experience on an Agile Team or an equivalent combination of Agile Certification and work experience


  • Experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization


  • Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban), or understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices


  • Experienced at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques


  • Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams

  • Guides team members in understanding their role. Helps team identify and resolve conflicts, with help from others.


  • Helps the team break down and deliver incremental work. Consistently and transparently tracks and helps remove team impediments. Effectively partners / coaches Product Owner and Dev Team to deliver value. Tracks progress and visualizes work by measuring progress and velocity through defined processes including generating a burn-down chart.


  • Partner internally and externally to make effective decisions solving complex problems, escalating high priority issues or impediments as appropriate, monitoring progress and results, and recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities.


  • Ability to articulate complex messages to the team, exhibiting clarity, honesty and impact.


  • Ability to impact actions, behaviors and opinions of stakeholders toward a desired outcome or to remove impediments. Influences the direction of PMO organization.


  • Brings Lean-Agile mindset to the work of the team and is comfortable challenging team thinking to bring in line with SAFe principles.
