Position Description:

The Human Resources Generalist performs related duties at the professional level and carries out responsibilities in the following areas: recruiting, benefits, payroll, associate relations, unemployment, worker’s compensation and training. The HR Generalist helps cultivate the employee experience by embodying Plastipak's values and mission.

Responsibilities:


  • Supports recruiting efforts for all open positions by sourcing, screening and interviewing applicants. Attends job fairs and assists with college and high school recruitment activities

  • Administers payroll functions (attendance record keeping, vacation accruals, check distribution and all other related functions). Maintains contract labor.

  • Administers all associate benefit programs, including health and dental insurance, life and AD&D insurance, 401(k), Open enrollment and wellness plans within guidelines given by corporate benefits and resolves employee benefit questions timely.

  • Assures compliance with COBRA/HIPAA requirements as defined and outlined by Corporate Benefits.

  • Administers leave of absence requests.

  • Conducts New Hire Orientations and training classes.

  • Performs and maintains all administrative functions in compliance with federal, state and company guidelines.

  • Responsible for the completion of all required training and technical criteria within a defined time period.

  • Follows all company policies and work rules including but not limited to GMP, Lean Manufacturing practices and the BOS quality system.

  • Follows all safety policies and reports any unsafe conditions and/or violations of any company policy to a supervisor.

  • Responsible for reporting food safety issues to personnel with authority to initiate action.

  • Participates in planning of associate appreciation events to foster a positive work environment.

  • Functions effectively within a team environment.

  • Cultivates a positive environment.

  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.

  • Relevant recruitment experience required.

  • SAP , Kronos, and Workday experience a plus.

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Strong analytical, planning, attention to detail, and organization skills.

  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment where priorities can change quickly.

  • Demonstrated ability in cultivating positive relationships.

  • Demonstrated aptitude with computers, including Microsoft, Excel and PowerPoint applications.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize.

  • Maintains appropriate level of confidentiality.

  • Lifting Requirements: Proper lifting techniques required. Up to 25lbs. for files, computer printouts on occasion.


  • Vision Requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Constant:  Sit or stand as needed. Walks on primarily level surface throughout the day.

  • Frequent: Computer work.

  • Occasional: Reach above shoulder heights; and below the waist lifting as required to file documents or store materials during the workday. May require working 40 hours or more. May require travel to training events and Company sponsored meetings.

  • Environment: Exposed to high levels of noise when on Plant floor. Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Safety Glasses with Side Shields and Hearing Protection when on Plant floor. Reading computer screens and documents. Office setting with ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment found in a typical office room.
