Tooling Manager at Howmet Aerospace

Job Description:

Our vision for this position is to lead the Tooling team in the planning, development, deployment and maintenance of Tooling Systems that was effectively executed will result in the achievement of organizational objectives. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages site Tooling personnel. Coordinating the duties and activities to meet production needs and satisfy needs of corporate engineering group.
  • Works with customers and design engineering group to ensure customer satisfaction and design for manufacturability. Tracks development and cost of new tooling and establishes tool tryout procedure to ensure quality and process control of new/revised tools.
  • Responsible for coordinating design and delivery of new equipment including machinery tool & die handling equipment and miscellaneous tooling. Designs process and quality controls required to meet specifications and eliminate defects. Schedules supplier and in-house equipment runoffs.
  • Strives to reduce direct and indirect labor cost. Plans to reduce indirect costs including job change, material handling, scrap, rework and unplanned repairs.
  • Provides engineering floor support on production, process controls to attain zero defects. Assist in the education and training of floor personnel to enhance employee ownership and quality improvement.
  • Works with Operations Manager in promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Supervisor Responsibilities.

    Provides leadership and coaching to the Tool & Die Team. Carry's out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and experience Bachelor's degree (BS) from a four-year college university and four years related leadership experience in diverse engineering roles supporting a modern manufacturing environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT KNOWLEDGE Management experience in directing both daily operations and major project work. Direct leadership roles in launching a major product start up and /or constructing a new manufacturing facility. Background in heavy press and transfer tooling Language Skills: Bilingual Ability to read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journal, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to basic inquiries or complaints from or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, plant, personnel, regulatory agencies, and public groups. Mathematical skill: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Professional Engineer Certification Preferred
