Overview:

Performs personal care and other assigned duties to patients in their home under the guidance and supervision of the skilled nursing staff or therapy staff.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A combination of patient care experience and patient care training consisting of a minimum of 60 hours of classroom instruction plus a minimum of 16 hours of supervised practical training, in the competency areas specified in the Home Health Aide Competency Evaluation Check List.

Licensure: Valid driver's license.

Certifications: CNA certified or have completed the Mercy Patient Care Tech training; CPR Certified

Other: Employee is frequently to continuously alone with patient and must be able to handle emergencies without assistance. Employee must be able to lift or assist falling or fallen patient; must be able to perform CPR alone, frequently for long periods of time without relief. Individual homes may present poor lighting situations, exposure to pets and other allergens, pest infestations and poor cleanliness. Employee may be exposed to irate and abusive patients and families. Employee may be required to drive in hazardous conditions; must be able to follow written or verbal instructions and read a map. Employee must independently schedule patient visits in timely and efficient manner; checking in with office daily to update schedule. Employee has regular contact with agency staff members, and general public. Employee regularly handles confidential information.

Preferred Other: Basic computer skills as well as a working knowledge of Windows, Word and Outlook.
