Austin Community College District (ACC) is a Hispanic-Serving Institution. ACC currently enrolls 41,500 students, over half of whom are non-white. In Fall 2017, ACC's students were 44.67% White, 35.47% Latinx, 7.51% African-American, 5.32% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander, 0.70% Native-American, and 3.80% multiracial. General Statement of Job


To coordinate Austin Community College's (ACC) Apprenticeship initiatives, conduct employer outreach efforts related to apprenticeships, and establish district-wide standards for pre-apprenticeships, registered and non-registered apprenticeships.


Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates the planning, daily operations, development, implementation, and evaluation of ACC apprenticeship programs including pre-apprenticeships, registered apprenticeships, industry recognized apprenticeships and non-registered apprenticeships.

  • Liaises with instructional divisions as appropriate to develop new apprenticeships.

  • Develops and maintains employer outreach efforts and databases for apprenticeship programs. Coordinates with department chairs and the Office of Experiential Learning as appropriate.

  • Develops standards and best practices for apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships.

  • Trains and supports departments and faculty in all aspects of apprenticeships including standards, best practices, the different types of apprenticeships and legal requirements.

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive database for all apprenticeships, apprenticeship agreements, and inter-local agreements pertaining to apprenticeships. Produces reports for these areas.

  • Liaises with the US Department of Labor regarding Registered Apprenticeships and IRAPs.

  • Promotes ACC apprenticeship programs at the college, locally and beyond.

  • Serves as a primary resource for faculty, staff, students, administration, employers, and community partners in support of ACC Apprenticeship programs.

  • Coordinates with the Office of Experiential Learning to leverage existing resources and avoid duplication of effort.

  • Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines assigned personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Recommends hires and follows progressive discipline for personnel actions, up to and including recommendation of terminations for positions supervised.



  • Knowledge

    Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Current principles and best practices of Apprenticeships including registered apprenticeships, non-registered apprenticeships, industry recognized apprenticeship programs (IRAP) and pre-apprenticeships.

    • Industry trends, local business and government leaders.

    • State and federal labor laws concerning internships and employment. Apprenticeship program planning and development.

    • Supervisory principles, practices, and methods.

    • Budget preparation, bid and purchasing procedures, and expense control.

    • Project planning and management principles.

    Technology Skills

    • Use of a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.



    Required Work Experience

    • Three years related work experience including one year supervisory experience. Education cannot be substituted for supervisory experience.

    • Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position.



    Preferred Work Experience

    • Experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing educational programs.

    • Non-teaching professional experience in one of the areas of the Workforce education divisions.



    Required Education

    • Bachelor's degree.

    • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.



    Physical Requirements

    • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.

    • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

    • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.



    Safety

    • Supervise safe operation of unit. Facilitate safety inspections. Take reasonable and prudent actions to eliminate identified hazards. Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and foster a workplace safety culture.

    Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.


    ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by Federal law.
