To register, verify eligibility, obtain authorizations and gather financial billing information for Inpatient and Outpatient services for all hospitals.

Job Duties

Updates and/or registers patient in EPIC or Emdeon billing system, while verifying financial and demographic information as needed. Correctly determines patient financial status to ensure financial obligations to hospital will be met.

Interacts with medical staff and Nursing regarding patient bed assignments and initiates patient registration.

Reviews all billing edits for accuracy to ensure timely corrections per department policy allowing the hospital to meet contracual obligations and comply with government regulations.

Prepares all billing to thirdparty payors and submits to appropriate party electronically or by hard copy. Corrects all rejected/incomplete claims and resubmits in Emdeon system.

Pursues thirdparty payors (i.e. Medicare, MediCal, private insurance) until account is paid or is denied, while sending timely appeals adhering to payor requirements and/or regulations.

Interfaces with social service agencies. Refers patients to CHS Community Service Program when appropriate and ensures that applications are completed and determinations are made in a timely manner. Receives incoming calls from patients, medical staff, and thirdparties regarding patient accounts while maintaining established patient confidentiality guidelines.

Determines costs and explains selfpay portions of accounts with patients. Establishes acceptable payment plans on selfpay liabilities with appropriate documentation noted in Sunrise System per departmental policy.

Meets established productivity goals according to departmental policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Minimum: High school diploma with some college coursework

Preferred: Associate and/or Bachelor's degree

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum: Basic MS Word and Excel skills. 35 wpm keyboarding/typing speed. Basic math skills.

Preferred: Advanced knowledge of MS office, including PowerPoint.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum: 1 year in an office environment or Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred: Related work experience in a healthcare environment, with a working knowledge of medical terminology.
