Senior Transportation Manager - North America

Position Responsibilities:

Responsible to manage the North America pool of road carriers across the United States, Canada and Mexico / Full Truck Loads (FTL), Less-than-Truckload(LTL) and Dry Bulk.

The Sr.Transportation Manager will own the 3 levels of interaction with the common carrier partners:


  1. Strategic


  • Select the best pool of common carriers.

  • Establish and deploy a best-in-class RFP & Contracting framework (agility and standardization).

  • Segment the partners and define a Supplier Relationship Model (SRM) to manage the partners efficiently.


  1. Operational


  • Accountable for the performance of the common carriers service: (safety standards), quality, service, cost and cash.

  • Work with the Transportation team to:


  • Develop and own a performance analytics system (with the Analytics & Value Realization and Controlling teams support) leveraging the existing Transplace capability.

  • Conduct meetings and activities (according to the SRM model) with the common carriers.

  • Ensure a strong Continuous Improvement framework is in place.

  • Support Commercial initiatives and transportation improvement projects.


  1. Tactical


    • Ensure an efficient daily/transactional flow of information between Nexeo, Transplace and the Carriers.

    • Work with the Transportation team to:

      • Supervise all orders on a daily basis through an exception based system (e.g. leveraging TMS / Transplace) and act when required.

      • Manage cost: provide cost accruals to controlling / validate & approve invoices.





Transportation Management Operating Model - key person


  • Participate in the definition of the Nexeo Plastics North America distribution strategy (insource vs outsource per business scope, type of assets ...).

  • Lead the design and implementation of a North America Transportation Control Tower to take our capabilities to the next level (Load building, routing, tendering, track & trace, invoicing and continuous improvement).

Private Fleet management - support


  • Responsible for private fleet life cycle management including Capex, specifications, acquisition, and disposal.

  • Lead private fleet performance through establishment of key utilization and productivity.

  • Support developing reporting and procedures to effectively manage company Fleet transportation spend.

Lead the Transportation team


  • Organize and develop the Transportation team

  • Ensure the team embraces Nexeo Plastics values and understands our company strategy.

Qualifications


  • BS or MBA in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation or relateddistribution business experience

  • 10 years of progressive transportation experience in a complex distribution environment

  • Proven track record of leveraging private fleet performance in a multiple facility operation

  • Background in compliance with all DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations

  • SAP advanced user

  • Strong data analysis skills (including advanced Excel user)

  • Proven leadership skills, strong interpersonal, collaboration, presentation and communications skills

  • Proven financial acumen

  • RFP and vendor interface/negotiation experience required

  • 10-20% Travel as needed
