The Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Bureau of Maternal, Child and Family Health (BMCFH) is seeking a Public Health Consultant for its Early Childhood Obesity Prevention and Health and Safety programs. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in child growth and development, working in childcare and public preschools to identify health/safety needs of children. The candidate will oversee the statewide programs to develop and deliver professional (educational) programs and resources for professionals working in childcare. The candidate should have strong organizational and communication skills as this position will require collaboration with internal ODH teams and external public stakeholders such as national/state organizations, and state agencies (e.g., Ohio Department of Education, Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, Ohio Department of Mental Health, Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association (OCCRRA), and State Title V program).

Primary Job Duties:


  • Acts as the Public Health Consultant for the Early Childhood Health and Safety and the Early Childhood Obesity Prevention programs.

  • Plans, implements, and conducts professional development.

  • Monitors, deliver and evaluates training in person and virtually.

  • Travel around the state to deliver face to face training once/twice a week (Virtual for now due the COVID-19).

  • Provides technical assistance through onsite visits.

  • Identifies health risks (e.g., nutrition, physical activity, medication administration procedures).

  • Work with the Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) system in Ohio.

  • Work with childcare systems in Ohio (e.g., Head Start programs, ODJFS-licensed childcare programs, and ODE-licensed public preschool programs).

  • Meeting OCCRRA requirements to become an instructor of Ohio Approved courses.

 

Additional Duties:


  • Participate in the Parenting at Mealtime and Playtime program.

  • Compiles personal health and wellness resources for childcare providers and their families.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to conduct focus groups to obtain input on interventions.

  • Develops and updates early childhood obesity prevention curriculum.

  • Prepares and provides presentations.

  • Attend State meetings to promote and recruit programs.

  • Assists in preparing grant applications and budget projections and budget revisions.

  • Prepares request for proposal (RFP).

  • Requires travel.

 

 

Completion of graduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field; 

 

6 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; 

 

Must be able to provide own transportation; 

 

Or

Completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field;

 

18 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups;

 

Must be able to provide own transportation;

 

Or

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
