The Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide and addresses technical issues/plans for Operations department. As part of your specific responsibilities, in the following areas, you will be responsible for the day to day Operation of Refinery. Supervises on-shift Operations team consisting of, day coordinator, front-line supervisors and hourly workforce to meet safety, environmental, production, quality and reliability goals. Partners with HR for administration of Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, Employee Relations, and Labor Relations (Union/ CBA) matters for Operations Department personnel. Ensures execution of the refinery movements and blending program meets established goals. Member of refinery's Operations team to set direction and lead implementation of optimization improvements.

The Opportunity:

As the Process Operations Superintendent at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company you will:


  • Supervises 2 Day Coordinators (DC) and an Operations Engineer (OE)

  • Responsible equipment/process/technical operation considered an extended -term basis.

  • Works with Tech Support on operating adjustments/long term trends to ensure safety, environmental compliance, quality, and target production.

  • Works with inspection and maintenance on equipment constraints, limits, and abnormal situations.

  • Work with controls group on new control strategies, DCS graphics, alarm management.

The Requirements:

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Process Operations Superintendent opportunity, you will have:


  • Monitors refinery activities on a daily basis to ensure safe operating limits, environmental permit limits compliance with the daily and week production plan. Communicates deviations and takes immediate actions to correct. Coordinates with Planning, Engineering, Marketing and Safety Departments on Operating unit status

  • Supervises, primarily through front-line supervisors, refinery operations. Ensures production plan is executed without incident. Apprises management of significant incidents and potential operational problems.

  • Responsible for Tank Farm, B-Area, Dock, Rail and McChord Pipeline compliance to include necessary manuals and inspections.

  • Oversees issuance of necessary daily orders, notices and asphalt blend sheets. Coordinates tank inventory/gauging/reconciliation.

  • Active participant in Refinery Process Safety Management processes. Focuses on Safe Work Permitting, Emergency Response for assigned units. Additionally, enforces Operating Procedures, Training, MOC, PSSR, and Incident Investigation processes.

  • Works with the Operations Manager to develop refinery specific objectives aligning with refinery's targets for safety, regulatory compliance, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Oversees production of supervisor and operator schedules.

  • Serves as on-site environmental compliance officer and communicates directly with community and outside agencies regarding environmental issues during off-hours.

  • Serves as incident commander during response to an emergency or abnormal condition, as well as on-site specialist for Emergency Responders.

  • Participating member of Operations leadership team. Works collaboratively with other supervisors and Superintendents to develop operations procedures.

  • Coordinates on-shift fact-finding and investigation to accurately determine root cause of safety and environmental incidents as well as process safety management and process disruption events. Ensures quality of reporting and communication pertaining to these events.

  • Recruits Operator Trainees and Shift Supervisors. Provides input to training on ensure Operator and SS training is current and adequate.

  • Reviews and analyzes refinery performance reports to determine causes and preventive actions for non-conformity and provides recommendations to maximize efficiency

Education:


  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • BA/BS in related field desired

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred

Experience:

  • Preferred 7 years refining operations. Front-line supervisory experience taken into consideration.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability required to perform essential job duties and work extended hours, including nights and weekends in process operations environment.

  • Must be able to access all areas of the refinery including use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect critical process and mechanical equipment.

  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting required. Must be able to reach overhead, squat, kneel, climb and grasp. Must be able to lift light, medium, and heavy objects. Must have 20/40 vision or better, have depth perception, full field, and able to distinguish colors as required to perform duties. Qualified to wear SCBA.

Working Conditions:

Works 9-hour shifts on a 9/80 schedule. Works extended hours, including nights and weekends, in process operations environment and during periods of inclement weather. Accesses areas of refinery requiring use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect critical process and mechanical equipment. Responds to upset conditions during off-hours

  • Must have computer skills including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office suite programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • This position requires organization and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and production requirements
