The Manager, Behavioral Health Clinical Care Partnerships will play a vital role in the success of the entire Care Partnership organization at Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) through direct management of the behavioral health staff as they fulfill care partnership objectives. The main expectation of the Behavioral Health



Clinical Manager is to be accountable for the performance and integration of the behavioral health staff for a cohort of defined teams (3-5 teams). The Manager is accountable for ensuring that performance and quality metrics are met as well as ensuring that the behavioral health objectives are aligned with the overall needs of the interprofessional care team. This includes the oversight of behavioral health staff engaging in consultation, ongoing management of complex members, and specialized evaluation/assessment, in addition, the manager will ensure that the team meets clinical and health plan related KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) that have specific behavioral health implications which are set by clinical leadership, regulators, and the business.

What We're Looking For

Master's Degree


LICSW, LMHC, PsyD is mandatory with licensure in good standing in Massachusetts

Minimum 4 years licensed clinical experience with 2 years in a supervisory position preferred


Minimum 4 years of combination licensed clinical / management experience with individuals with severe mental illness, substance use disorders and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder


Experience with cross-functional collaboration for process improvement


Fluency in English required; fluency in one or more of the following languages strongly preferred: Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Nepalese, and Vietnamese




  • Strong management and team-building skills

  • Ability to manage significant change

  • Excellent communication skills

  • In--depth knowledge of CCA resources, clinical guidelines, systems, and processes

  • Ability to teach, mentor, and coach across disciplines

  • Ability to quickly shift gears and move in a new direction without clear guidance

  • Experience with electronic medical record strongly preferred (eCW a plus)

What You'll Be Doing
As a keystone of the Clinical Group leadership team, the Behavioral Health Manager, in coordination with the Director of BH, participates in the development of strategies and is responsible for the execution of those strategies to meet objectives. The Behavioral Health Manager is engaged in the hiring and onboarding, performance management and staff compliance to support and improve care delivery, care management, and clinical operations in alignment with the strategic goals of CCA.

Leads a team of behavioral health staff
Holds team accountable to meet KPIs including productivity expectations, and metrics that support CCA's quality measures, proactively identifies areas of opportunity and improvement for individual contributors, creates action/development plans for individual contributors and follows through on plans;
Ensures that work is evenly distributed across the behavioral health staff and that priorities are maintained in collaboration with other clinical managers and behavioral health clinical directors to ensure even distribution across teams;
Accountable for quality, service utilization, targeted activities driven by effective use of predictive analysis and productivity levels of behavioral health staff
Collaborates closely with medical leadership to ensure appropriate integration within the team
Participates in overall CCA Quality Initiatives
Provides clinical oversight and support to the HOW Managers as needed
Models collaboration in all relevant specialty programs;
Active participant in Medical Management initiatives, working toward CCA's goal of impacting the cost of health care for the dual eligible population;
Is responsible for the Root Cause Analysis process within the team, reviewing all inpatient behavioral health hospitalizations to identify areas of opportunity and improvement for individual contributors: Assist in reviews of service plans to ensure "right sizing" by identifying behavioral health considerations or interventions that might be crucial in efforts to impact financial outcome including BH assessments that appropriately adjust for diagnostic risk adjustment
Participates in the selection, hiring, and onboarding of staff as well as performance appraisal, documentation of deficiencies, performance recognition, and disciplinary action. Develops, supervises, and appraises direct reports; plans and implements disciplinary actions as needed, works with Human Resources and legal staff as * as appropriate; when warranted, makes recommendations to the Behavioral Health Clinical Director and Clinical Director regarding the evaluation, promotion, transfer or discipline of personnel.
Addresses internal behavioral health personnel issues, problem-solves local issues and engages in conflict-management
Educates team members and behavioral health staff regarding management of most common psychiatric conditions
Provides strong clinical guidance and coaching for complex clinical situations throughout the teams
Acts as mentor and coach to new Behavioral Health Clinical Managers
Actively directs and participates in team meetings and assist in selective (audit oriented) high risk behavior health case reviews)
Works with Clinical Managers to review member acuity and risk scores to ensure members are in the correct care model
Provide oversight over new behavioral health staffs' orientation in close collaboration with CCA's Education Department
Reviews behavioral health clinical documentation and records to ensure accuracy and timeliness;
Provides input to the Director of BH re: strategies to improve the integration of behavioral health. Works cross-functionally within the clinical manager, clinical director and behavioral health clinical director leadership grouping to overcome barriers to effective and efficient local work flows and to develop and enhance clinical programs, policies, workflows, and projects.
Participates in cross-organizational working groups to continuously improve practice; Participates in CCA Quality Improvement efforts.
Participates in committees and workgroups that promote clinical excellence and help to advance CCA's mission and business objectives.
Actively participates in the evaluation of team based behavioral health clinicians' performance and progress.
