The Graduate Student Advisor in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) Graduate Affairs Office advises graduate level students regarding appropriate course selection, degree/certificate requirements, and academic planning. The Graduate Student Advisor tracks students as they work toward their degree/certificate completion. The Graduate Student Advisor will assist newly admitted students - creating a smooth onboarding/transition for incoming students - and continuing students with academic and registration questions and issues; will provide accurate and thorough information about resources, policies, and processes. The Graduate Student Advisor supports the college, programs, and students in facilitating such services as information sessions, orientations, admitted student registration events, and other group/workshop type events. The Graduate Student Advisor will process petitions and other forms. The Graduate Student Advisor may occasionally interact with undergraduate students regarding graduate degree options, especially the accelerated degree programs. The advisor will provide solution-focused advising and service to students and colleagues. The Graduate Student Advisor will liaise with faculty, departments, deans, and university administrators, communicating with professionalism and maintaining discretion; the advisor will communicate in a timely, thorough, and professional manner. The Graduate Student Advisor will ensure accuracy and thoroughness in student record-keeping. Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

Master's degree with at least one year of post-degree professional advising experience in higher education, preferably with graduate students.

Required Skills & Abilities:

* Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with students in group settings.

* Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; ability to gather and analyze information skillfully, develop alternative solutions, and consider all facets of an issue.

* Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and discretion.

* Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of retention theory and initiatives.

* Ability to maintain a consistently positive and objective approach to student service.

* Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with others as part of a team in a high-volume and changing environment.

* Demonstrated ability to work and interact with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.

* Knowledge and use of personal computers and proficiency in student records systems as well as software and programs that increase efficiencies

* Ability to work nights and/or weekends as necessary.

Please note this position will temporarily work remotely, the duration of remote work will be at the discretion of Temple University and the department.
