Job Description:

This part-time position is a unique experience for a RN within the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Provides direction in coordinating the collection and processing of research and clinical samples (e.g., pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and pharmacodynamics-related samples) for patients involved in clinical research studies in the PK Shared Resource of the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center. Serves as the contact for internal and external communication regarding correct sample collection, shipping, and tracking to ensure that samples are correctly obtained, documented, and distributed. The RN must maintain an excellent working knowledge of all assigned protocols to ensure the validity of the clinical research data, verify patient eligibility, develop, maintain and/or monitor data collection forms, and enter clinical findings into a study related database. You will learn from some of the most knowledgeable clinical researchers in the world as part of our team.


The role of the Clinical Research Associate- RN I will entail:


  • Assists with the conduct of clinical trials supported by the Pharmacokinetics Shared Resource.

  • Maintains essential study documents for assigned protocols.

  • Conducts informed consent process as designated by principal investigator (PI).

  • Ensures that all study-involved processes are completed.

  • Helps coordinate protocol-directed care with local physicians and St. Jude affiliates

  • Manages multiple studies while interfacing with a variety of departments.

  • Provides patient education and management. Explains complex terms in an age-appropriate manner.

  • Maintains appropriate professional competencies; completes appropriate training on the protection of human subjects during the first 6 months of employment.



  • Graduation from a school of nursing is required

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred



  • Two (2) years of clinical and/or research experience required

  • Clinical research experience preferred



  • (LC: RN-TN) Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure Non-Compact state

  • (LC: RN-MISS, RN-ARK or RN-KY) Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state


  • (LC: SOCRA or ACRP) Certification in clinical research from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) must be obtained within three (3) years of assuming the position
