Electrical Controls Systems Engineer at Dematic Corp.

Responsibilities

Dematic has an immediate need for an Electrical Controls Engineer in our Global Project Engineering group at our Grand Rapids, MI location. The preferred candidate will have 2-5 years related experience, including planning, specification, and implementation of engineering design projects. This role would report into an Engineering Manager. You have the ability to provide superior customer service to a variety of industry verticals: food & beverage, apparel, e-commerce and more.

Project Leadership


  • Able to complete forecasting tasks (YLF and scorecard).

  • Able to lead a small project, with assistance.

  • Develop staffing plan, with assistance.

  • Develop project implementation plan and submit to Manger, with assistance.

  • Able to perform the project close out process, including the close out checklist.

Hardware Design


  • Verify design (check someone else’s work) of a basic flow control area (such as Pick Module or Slapper). This includes proper device placement.

  • Design advanced area (such as Shipping or any type of Merge). Design includes schematics and area layout w/ proper device placement.

  • Design complex area (such as LPA, Sortation, or Zone Route). Design includes schematics and area layout w/ proper device placement. Devices include scanners and printers.

  • Able to review equipment list and verify accuracy with relation to drawings.

  • Able to locate and apply customer standards, as applicable.

  • Able to create drawings and BOM. Coordinating a SoW for others to perform the work is also applicable.

  • Advance order parts and long lead time items.

  • Apply air pressure switches properly to a design.

  • Create DO from quote and project specifications.

  • Define area boundaries on a composite layout.

  • Able to obtain barcode and understand use, along with documenting scanner information on drawings.

  • Network:

    • Determine network settings for switches and gateways, following Standard Work

    • Design network layout and assign addresses.



Software and Emulation


  • Verify PLC code (check someone else’s work) and emulation for a basic flow control area.

  • Write PLC code and emulate for an advanced area.

  • Write PLC code and emulate for a complex area. Code includes host communications and interfaces to peripherals such as scanners or printers.

  • Create map for PLC to PLC communication.

  • Document and program Energy Management requirements, as applicable

  • Document and program End/Start of Batch/Wave requirements, as applicable.

  • Document status data for Visualization.

Commissioning


  • Lead commissioning efforts for basic areas.

  • Commission advanced and complex areas with minimal assistance.


Qualifications

Education:

Typically a 4 year BSEE degree or equal in a related discipline is required.

Knowledge and Experience:

Demonstrates a good grasp of knowledge and principles of field of specialization and applies through successful completion of assignments. Successfully applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization. Typically 2-5 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable

Travel:  Travel can range anywhere from 25% - 40% depending on the project and is typically on weekends and possibly over some holidays.

Direction of Others:

May provide general guidance or train lower level support staff.

Key Working Relationships:

Primarily intra-organizational contacts and some external contacts.
