Wood is currently seeking a Senior ProjectArchitect/Lead Architect to join our Life Sciences (Biotechnology / Pharmaceuticals) team within our Center City Philadelphia office to develop life-changing and in many cases, life-saving solutions for our clients.
While this position will report into our Philadelphia office, due to our current remote capacity, we are also considering candidates outside of the Philadelphia area.
On a global scale, Wood serves the Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Federal, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Mining, and Power Industries. Our Philadelphia office has become the Center of Excellence for our global Life Sciences network, providing full-service pharmaceutical and biotechnology engineering, design, procurement, and project management services.
We're looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual with the ability to execute all phases of project design. Project sizes will vary and will include both existing building improvements and new construction. Excellent organization and communication skills are important for this position.

Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes, or techniques.
Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, and equipment.
Uses advanced technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables including complex problems and to complete any project tasks with minimal guidance and direction.
May serve as the Lead Engineer or the project Technical Authority on projects.
Holds advanced specialization in one or more areas of expertise.
Functions as a technical specialist who develops applications, hypothesis, approaches and applies advanced engineering concepts to unique engineering problems.
Manages client relationships and project team engagement with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation, and risk.
Key Responsibilities
Lead an architectural design team through all phases of design: initial programming, planning, feasibility & concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction documentation.
Write reports such as feasibility studies, design criteria, and recommendations.
Provide technical guidance and direction to project team.
Supervise delivery of subcontracted engineering design.
Display a solid working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and construction document preparation (e.g. graphics, detailing, and specifications) as well as organization and distribution during all stages of development (e.g. review, bid, permit, etc.)
Provide a wide range of architectural services while maintaining a sense of urgency and prioritization of tasks.
Lead, participate, and coordinate the preparation and quality check of contract documents, including documents being completed by multiple Wood offices.
Organize, participate, and lead the interdisciplinary design coordination reviews of project-related documentation to ensure accuracy and implementation of engineering design solutions.
Plan and carry out successive steps and handles problems with general guidance from instructions, policies and precedents.
Meeting discipline cost and schedule requirements in production of deliverables, coordinating own work schedule and preparing progress reports when needed.
Recommend changes in plans, develop alternative solutions, identify risks and benefits.
Perform site observations such as recording and reporting of existing conditions and construction progress and effectively address problems and questions as they occur during construction.
Review vendor documents and shop drawings.
Help to establish a culture of technical excellence through role modelling and communicating expectations
Establish effective working relations with colleagues, clients and officials.
Skills / Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Architecture (5-year program) or Master of Architecture (M.Arch.)
Architectural licensure required
More than 10 years' experience
Life Sciences architectural design experience and knowledge of cGMPs required
Willingness and Qualifications to obtain NCARB certification in multiple states.
Knowledgeable with architectural software packages (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Sketchup)
Experience in preparing Specifications preferred
International experience a plus
Flexibility to travel (~10%) required
