Overview:

The Sustainbility Policy Packaging Leader, is responsible for developing and driving execution of the General Mills North America strategy to impact public policy on packaging sustainability and ensure compliance with existing and emerging North America packaging sustainability mandates, particularly Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws. This includes assuring that current and new General Mills products meet applicable requirements in an environment of ever-changing standards and advocating for initial regulations and ongoing regulatory reform. This role will develop and nurture strategic relationships within external stakeholders and other CPG industry compliance bodies, and coordinate with internal experts on packaging, sustainability, finance, and other areas.

Responsibilities:


  • Engage with and advocate General Mills positions with key external stakeholders, including policy makers and regulators, industry trade associations, packaging sustainability and recycling advocates, and producer responsibility organizations.

  • Engage with key internal stakeholders including brand marketing, sustainability, R&D packaging, law, finance, and others to ensure priorities are actioned.

  • Lead cross-functional reporting teams for packaging sustainability mandates, including EPR and beverage deposit return laws, and ensuring compliance for North America Region Consumer and Pet divisions.

  • Manage environmental consultants and contracts for General Mills to meet reporting obligations.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

  • 5 or more years of directly related experience

  • Prior experience in complying with packaging extended producer responsibility mandates and reporting processes

  • Prior experience in public policy or regulatory affairs

  • Exceptional communication skills, able to effectively communicate and engage all levels of internal and external stakeholders

  • Must be self-starter, goal oriented, and take initiative to achieve objectives

  • Must be a strong team player

  • Proven success working cross-functionally to ensure collaboration on shared goals

Additional Considerations:

Can consider candidates from across the US with preference for candidates that are in the Minneapolis area. If the identified candidate is outside of Minneapolis, please anticipate regular travel (approx. 6-12 trips annually) to coordinate with key internal stakeholders, external partners, policy makers and regulators.
