Job Description

Job Summary:

A Production Test Engineer at Teledyne FLIR interacts with other engineering groups to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. They identify functional problems and suggest resolutions. They also assist in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs. Analyzes test processes and provides regular progress reports. They are responsible for the development and continuous improvement of the methods and processes related to the manufacture and test of ground robots. In this role they will meet day-to-day short-term objectives, resolve issues through immediate action/short term planning and lead longer term projects to achieve business objectives as well as your own career development.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Lead the development of the manufacturing process in relation to test, through the implementation of LEAN manufacturing principles.

  • Review proposed engineering changes, prepare drawing changes on released production materials, proactively initiate design improvements.

  • Transfer engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation.

  • Create End-to-End Manufacturing Test Plans/Strategy for entire product lines defining goals, objectives, timelines, and requirements.

  • Perform DFx analysis at all levels of design, identifying opportunities for assembly improvement and cost reduction.

  • Document test procedures, test specifications, and acceptance criteria for new and existing products.

  • Support the implementation of smart manufacturing including leading the transition of all test related processes.

  • Maintain production test equipment.

  • Lead the development of equipment, programming, and processes for acceptance testing of robotic systems.

  • Support the internal manufacturing team by resolving complex manufacturing problems.

  • Provide technical support for product specific issues at suppliers, monitor supplier processes, collect, analyze, and report data. Initiate corrective actions as required, and expedite product related corrective actions.

  • Investigation and implementation of corrective action on defects found at the module and full system level. This will include mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical units, assemblies, and subsystems.

  • Develop statistical process control methods to decrease test cycle time, improve margin and increase system quality.

  • Work with suppliers to support deployed product and respective tests.

Job Qualifications:


  • BSEE or BTEE or equivalent required.

  • 3+ years experience in electrical and/or mechanical testing.

  • Experience working with suppliers.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks as assigned by management.

  • Knowledge in LabVIEW programming.

  • Proven track record of successfully creating new test processes and implementing enhancements to existing test projects.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Military product experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Windchill and SAP is a plus.

  • Familiarity with PCBA design is a plus (Altium)

  • Familiarity with mechanical modeling is a plus (Pro/E)

  • SPC/DOE/Six Sigma/lean manufacturing tool skills a plus
