About The Job

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Director of Credit Analytics in the Credit Risk Management Department. If you are the chosen candidate, you will be responsible for following established procedures, will lead the data analytics and reporting function of the department in the creation and reporting of critical loan data used in analyzing loan portfolio risk to include CECL modeling and monthly board risk reports. Maintains in-depth knowledge of loan classifications, regulatory guidelines, internal loan policy, servicing, and general banking. Along with other senior managers, makes recommendations for the strategic direction of the Bank's CRE, C&I, Mortgage and Consumer loan portfolios.

Areas of focus:


  • Management/Leadership - Leads the portfolio risk management department in financial modeling and data analytics. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating employee performance and leading team members. Responsible for the collaboration with other departments for the accuracy and timely completion of the monthly CECL calculation and reports as needed.

  • Allowance for Credit Losses - Prepares monthly reports to ensure the accuracy of the bank's Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) calculation and commercial loan Watch List. Participates in the quarterly CECL Working Group meeting to assess the adequacy of the factors and assumptions that feed into the model. Presents a summary of activity within the model on a monthly basis to the ACL Approval Group.

  • Analytics and Reporting - Analyzes the portfolio to identify operational, regulatory and/or credit risk. Such analysis involves, but is not limited to: concentration, LTV, geography, non-performing assets, exceptions, and stress testing. Identifies more meaningful ways to analyze and present information to highlight the risks in the loan portfolio (ie, KRI reporting, ad hoc reporting, migration analysis). Provides monthly and quarterly credit risk reporting on the health and composition of the bank's lending portfolio to Executive Management and the Board. Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to continually enhance data quality. Presents the analysis to the bank's Credit Risk Committee on a quarterly basis, at a minimum. Business Intelligence Center and other decision support systems, such as CREInsight, are used for the development of these reports.

  • Loan Examination - Leads the team in the collection of data to support internal and external audits, loan exams, and compliance monitoring. Develops reports that are outside the scope of the examiners and loan reviewers to ensure quality in all lending areas. Works with members of the lending division to gather reports related to the restructuring of troubled debt.

Required Skills:


  • Minimum of 10 years of data analytics and/or credit risk experience in the combination of work in consumer, commercial, and mortgage loan areas.

  • Advanced level of knowledge/experience in the development of reports using various applications.

  • Experience gathering, review and interpreting large amounts of data, identifying any anomalies, and leading research needed to address root cause of any such anomalies.

  • Interpersonal skills are needed to interact with members of the other departments, management and other internal clients to resolve questions or problems.
