Position Overview

We are seeking an Associate Director, Specialty Engineering, Mission Assurance.  In this position, you will be responsible for both functional and technical leadership, management and oversight of the Specialty organization and its multi-functional disciplines.  You will have an exciting opportunity to provide strong functional leadership for a team of up to 18 Engineers, and growing, while also providing significant technical guidance and oversight of this discipline for the larger team.  The Specialty Engineering disciplines include:


  • Ground and space-based Mission Assurance technologies

  • Parts, Materials and Processes

  • Material Science, including both metals and non-metals

  • Contamination control

  • Reliability Lab test capabilities for the qualification & assessment of space-based parts and materials

  • Reliability/Survivability analysis capabilities, and

  • EEE Parts selection & assessment capabilities

The management of these Specialty disciplines allows you the opportunity to work directly with Mission Assurance technologies and program managers responsible for the development and execution of ground, airborne and space-based electro-optical systems, electronic systems and space-based payloads.  Specific responsibilities will include:


  • Establish a strategic vision and direction for the department with the input to, and support of the technical leads within the department.

  • Provision of oversight, guidance, and progress assessments in all Specialty Engineering functional disciplines.

  • Drive and innovate, with input from the technical team, the continued development of Specialty Engineering processes for continued execution improvement.

  • Direct interface and collaboration with internal and external customers to include Specialty Engineering mission assurance requirements and milestones status, as well as development issue resolution and trouble shooting.

  • Drive/Develop the department’s labor forecast for strategic resource application to programs.

Direct talent management activities for the group to include talent acquisition, skill identification and development, career growth, succession planning and resource allocation.

 Education / Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or a related field is required. A Master’s degree preferred.

Experience/Qualifications


  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in one of the Specialty Engineering disciplines, with a minimum of 5 years management experience in the Specialty Engineering function or other related Engineering disciplines.

  • The ability to lead and foster an Engineering team

  • Background and understanding of Mission Assurance requirements

  • Ability to execute technical and programmatic communications to both internal and external customers
