JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary :

Under the direction of the Principal, the Teacher on Special Assignment directs, coordinates, and provides instructional support and program management . The Teacher on Special Assignment is an experienced special education teacher who will provide individual and group support and training to professional and paraprofessional staff. The Teacher on Special Assignment must be well versed in classroom management, positive behavior support (PBS) and writing Individualized Education Program (IEP)s. Under the direction of the Principal, the Teacher on Special Assignment oversees all building management functions.

Essential Functions :

• Assist s the principal to oversee the instructional program and staff activities providing technical assistance in areas such as assessment, curriculum development, report writing, use of materials and equipment, development of IEPs and management of student behavior.


• Assist s the principal to plan , organize and conduct staff meetings and professional development activities for staff.


• Assists the principal in daily school building operations and building management functions.


• Assists t he principal to provide leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of an instructional program .


• Assists the principal in decisions regarding the placement of students and the transition of students into various programs .


• Assist supervisors with program initiatives and committees.


• Participates in and facilitates IEP meetings in the absence of the Program Supervisor ; may serve as LEA when necessary.


• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to problem solve issues related to students within the classroom or itinerant programs.


• Protects confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use s discretion in sharing such information within legal confines .


• Provides orientation, in-service training and technical assistance for program staff .


• Establishes a professional rapport with students and with staff that earns their respect by maintaining visibility with students, staff, parents and the community .


• Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel , districts and agencies .

Supervisory Responsibility : No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work : This is a full-time, 193 -day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are from 8: 0 0 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel : May be required to travel to itinerant locations throughout Bucks County and surrounding regions.
