Job Summary:
This role focuses on establishing the broad Research strategy with a particular focus on new product design. The group headed by this role will develop new products from concept to testable product concept using specialized skills (e.g. molecular biology, protein biochemistry, formulation). Through leading 3 units within Research, this leader interacts with key leaders in other functions, upper management, and external collaborators to drive the company agenda. This role is responsible for managing a large portion Research's HC and budget while pushing innovation.
Major Accountabilities:
Develops strategies for Research and broad company short, medium and long term goals for new innovative product development and scientific support of existing products/initiatives.
Manages managers in three key areas (Microbial and Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry, Formulation & Delivery) with a focus on operationalizing strategies and maximizing IP generation. Manage budget and workforce in these areas.
Manages external network of KOLs and key scientific contacts for broad Research goals.
Function as a key leader of the Seqirus Research group. Acts as a key contact for upper management and other function in the execution of the defined Research agenda.
Guiding groups for which the role is responsible to maintain high quality standards, HSE compliance, etc. for the strengthening of the positive culture and working environment.
Minimum Requirements:
PhD, MD in relevant Protein Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Formulation & Delivery, or equivalent
PhD or equivalent with >15 year experience, Prior industry experience required.
Key knowledge of vaccine development with a particular emphasis on pre-clinical vaccine design aspects
In-depth knowledge of Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry, Formulations & Delivery with high level expertise in any area is required
Demonstrated and extensive management skills
Publication track record
Critical thinking skills and troubleshooting skills
Experience developing multiple vaccine products
Deep, demonstrated knowledge of influenza and in-depth understanding of the global influenza system (GISRS)
Existing relationships within the global influenza systems (GISRS)
Ability to guide individuals to independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret data in a timely manner with some guidance and supervision.
Ability to generate high quality, high level written reports, to prepare and present data at cross-functional internal meetings, and to demonstrate ownership, understanding, and accountability of assigned projects.
Track record for Intellectual Property generation
Demonstrated ability in managing budgets and head count resources
