Job Description and Responsibilities:

Coherent Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) designs and manufactures precision solid state lasers for scientific, medical, instrumentation and vision markets, as well as calibrated laser measurement systems for a wide variety of laser applications. The business provides critical technology to thousands of global customers with a wide range of products, specifically tailored to satisfy demanding customer requirements. Coherent LSM is located just minutes South of Portland in Wilsonville, Oregon.

As a Test Technician, you will be involved in the following:
* Perform the set-up, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of laser modules, electronic circuits, and mechanical assemblies.
* Work with free-space optical components and test, and troubleshoots assemblies and/or final systems.
* May complete rework on assemblies and/or systems as a result of testing.
* Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical problems.
* Operate computer systems for testing of product and report writing
* Use lasers, monochromators, optics, DMM/DVMs, arbitrary waveform generators, power supplies, oscilloscopes, LabView software, current sources, laser beam analyzers, optical power meters, and other proprietary tools to perform tests and calibrations.
* Support Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
* Contribute to control of inventory and work order management.



Education and Work Experience:


  • BS/BA/AA degree, military technical training or their equivalent vocational training is preferred in Electronics, Optics, Lasers, Photonics, Engineering, Physics or a related technical field.

  • Experience in testing of electronics and/or laser, optics, or photonics can substitute for BS/BA/AA degree or tech training.

  • 5-7 years of experience is preferred.

  • Requires ability to read drawings and use measurement instruments.

  • Requires basic understanding of math, physics, and electronic principles.

  • Requires experience in testing with electronic/laser lab equipment.

  • New product introduction experience is a plus

  • Experience in testing of electronics and/or laser, optics, or photonics preferred.

  • Experience in alignment of laser systems and optics preferred.

  • Requires strong communication skills

  • Basic soldering skills are preferred.

  • Basic skills in the use of mechanical tools are required.
