Our Laser Diode Components group in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a detail oriented Senior Staff Development Engineer to become part of the Engineering team. We are looking for a well-motivated self-starter who can take general instructions and seek out all the elements needed to complete the assigned tasks. You will be able to adapt quickly to changing requirements and understand critical needs and prioritize tasks and workload.

Job Description and Responsibilities:


  • Development of cutting-edge high power laser diode products and processes.

  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to design, test and release new products.

  • Be the responsible engineer for various laser diode packaged products.

  • Sustain and improve existing laser diode products and processes:

  • Define and maintain product specifications and bills of material for new products.

  • Qualify suppliers and define equipment requirements and specifications.

  • Interface with highly technical customers and internal Sales and Product Line Management to understand customer needs and translate them into actionable, cost effective solutions.

  • This position is very hands-on, requiring a significant amount of time spent in the lab and in a clean room environment.




Education and Work Experience:


  • Ph.D, or M.S. in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

  • 10+ year laser manufacturing or development engineering experience.

  • In depth understanding of the principles of optics and lasers.

  • Hands-on experience of developing and troubleshooting new and existing laser diode packaging and integration processes.

  • Knowledge of conventional as well as advanced packaging materials commonly used.

  • Knowledge of laser diode manufacturing methods on wafer and chip level as they relate to packaging and system integration.

  • Knowledge of laser diode operational characteristics as well as degradation mechanisms.

  • Fluent in statistical data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE).

  • Experience in use of standard diagnostic/test equipment (power meters, spectrometers, interferometers, spectrum analyzers, beam parameter diagnostics, and oscilloscopes)

  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with proven troubleshooting skills.

  • Computer skills: Optical Simulation Software, Labview and other relevant coding experience is a big plus.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and manage priorities.

  • Ability to work from general instructions for new assignments either in isolation or as part of a wider team.

  • US citizen or green card holder.
