Responsibilities of a Furnace Operator:
Tender set-ups, operates, maintains, and controls furnaces to melt metal to specified temperatures.
Collect & empty barrels of scrap onto shaker table and inspect scrap for items that don't belong.
Remove slag from the "remelt pot" and place the cool slag into a slag box for recycle.
Keep machine areas supplied with proper alloy and perform material change overs at the machines when required.
Maintain and update the material log sheet on all alloys other than Z7 material when the material is removed and placed in storage area and to properly identify the material with paint colors.
Must melt down raw scrap and put it into ingot form.
Must stack empty scrap barrels, cleanup work area and observe all safety rules.
Requirement of Remelt Furnace Operator:
Remain on feet for entire shift.
Work in extreme variations of temperature throughout the year.
Experience working in industrial production or furnace room preferred.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
