Position Summary:
The Senior Production Scheduler is responsible for planning and maintaining of finished goods inventory levels and production schedules needed to satisfy sales demand. The Senior Production Scheduler is responsible for all the planning functions surrounding the maintenance of the plant schedules and inventory levels including spoilage management, inventory turns, capacity management, interfacing with customer service when necessary and all factors leading to the highest level of customer service at the lowest cost and/or greatest product profit realization. This position reports to the Plant Manager and also consults with and advises the Production Operations Superintendent, regional sales managers, customer service manager and other management personnel in supply chain management. The Senior Production Scheduler consults with and advises production supervisors and to achieve the highest OEE possible and maximize warehouse space. This position also requires weekend coverage rotation with the Packing and Loading Superintendent and Supervisors.

Core Functions:


  • Responsible for all plant operations scheduling while maintaining a thorough understanding of facility capabilities and the ability to balance them efficiently to meet customer demand

  • Assist in management of the Packing and Loading department personnel

  • Work with Supply Chain management on plant forecasting, capacities, and production reconciliation

  • Manage inventory turns and warehouse capacity management

  • Analyze customer demand to determine appropriate inventory levels and maximize warehouse space

  • Work cooperatively with all sales personnel to identify solutions to customer service problems and scheduling conflicts

  • Works integrally with all production management personnel to manage a complex run schedule, while coordinating bin management and down day management, which daily impacts every employee at the location

  • Work with the purchasing coordinator to order and coordinate ingredients and materials

  • Maintain planning and forecasting data files to support the planning function

  • Work closely with supply chain and outside sales functions to establish proper stocking levels for new products

  • Establish and maintain systems to support reorder points and exception reports so customer demand is supported

  • Monitor and communicate slow moving inventories to prevent product spoilage

  • Supervise and coordinate the physical inventory including the reconcilement

  • Coordinates with warehouse and packaging on cycle counts

  • Generate and distribute weekly and daily finished goods schedules

  • Maintain measures of standard performance (Inventory turns, railcar turns, changeovers, schedule changes, etc.)

  • Supervise Packing and Loading hourly employees as needed

  • Any other duties as assigned

Skill/Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science in Business or related field preferred, or ability to work toward Bachelor of Science degree is acceptable

  • 3+ years related experience in plant operations is required including knowledge of products produced at the facility including but not limited to quality, logistics and operational experience

  • Ability to rapidly assess changing situations and making knowledgeable decisions and recommendations for senior management is required

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred

  • Ability to use SAP at a high proficiency level

  • Ability to use Microsoft excel at a medium proficiency level

  • Ability to proficiently use a personal computer

  • Accurate data entry skills required

  • Advanced communication skills

  • Monday-Friday days, but on call as needed. Some weekend work, as needed.
