The Structural Engineering Internship provides the opportunity to obtain experience that will further the engineering student's education and career. The candidate will work with architects, structural, mechanical, process and electrical engineers and designers on designs for facilities primarily serving the water, wastewater, fisheries and heavy industries. Project work may include assisting with structural design effort on regional, national, and international projects, and the preparation of construction drawings using AutoCAD. The Structural Engineering Intern will be part of a collaborative, multi-discipline environment developing innovative, cost effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades and retrofits.

Please note that this is a part-time position; 8-16 hours per week, to coordinate with your studies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Perform calculations and engineering analyses
  • Assist in the preparation of Construction Documents including Plans, Specifications, and Cost Estimates

  • Assist in the preparation technical reports in support of projects

  • Process shop drawings and submittals

  • Prepare supporting documents under the direction of the Project Manager

  • Read and edit technical documents

  • Perform quantity take-offs and call vendors for product information including cost and lead time

  • Utilize RISA 3D, Enercalc and other software for structural design

  • Contribute to standard detail and specification updates

  • Other duties as assigned by Project Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Intern should be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in a University degree program for Civil/Structural Engineering
