You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth Orlando’s service standards.
Assesses and makes appropriate decisions and interventions according to patient evaluation needs. Sets patient goals, assisting in the development of a plan of care along with the multidisciplinary team. Evaluates / interpret diagnostic data including but not limited to lab results and monitoring data. Communicates effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
Satisfactorily completes department orientation, airway management certification (campus specific), critical care training program, Infant/ Pediatric Emergency training program (campus specific) and is proficient at all applicable procedures defined below.
Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis. Documents and charges for procedures accurately and completely to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.
Responds to Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines. Performs airway maintenance including proper use of manual resuscitators, suctioning, extubation, assists with bronchoscopy, assists with tracheostomy tube insertion, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, LMA insertion, manages patients with laryngectomy. Provides procedural respiratory support. May perform endotracheal intubation, under direct supervision, or after completion of documented competency.
Through use of protocols/prescriber care plans, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team, determines proper therapy delivery device/ frequency, making appropriate changes/ recommendations to plan of care. Delivers inhaled medications, bronchial hygiene therapy, lung expansion therapy and manages patients receiving inhaled gasses.
Provides respiratory care to patients on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators. Initiates, operates, transports, and liberates conventional modes of ventilation per policy and procedure/ prescriber care plan. Reviews chest radiology reports as necessary. Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors heliox. Prones/ ambulates ventilated patients.
Properly performs hemodynamic procedures to include arterial cannulation using sterile technique, assembly, calibration; assisting with pulmonary artery catheter insertion, calibration; performs cardiac output and hemodynamic/ cardiopulmonary profiles. Maintains hemodynamic lines (campus specific).
Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction / precepting and serves as a resource person to lower level therapists. Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics. Performs other duties as requested by department leadership.
Obtains, performs, and reports findings of blood gas and co-oximetry analysis. Performs quality control as needed. Setup and perform oximetry, apnea, TC and ETCO2 monitoring as ordered by physician. Performs EKGs after hours (campus specific)
May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth Orlando non-waived Point of Care training.
After completion of critical care training and airway management certification, may fill in at a stand-alone ED in the absence of a stand-alone ED Respiratory Therapist
CAMPUS / UNIT-SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Applicable Campuses: Performs a-line maintenance, assists with CVP catheter insertion. Delivers emergency care to Pediatric and Infant patients in the Emergency Department. Perform Pulmonary Diagnostic Testing.
ALTAMONTE, CELEBRATION, AND WINTER PARK: Performs effectively in the Labor and Delivery work area and Level 2 Neonatal ICU (as applicable). Delivers neonatal resuscitation and assists with APGAR scoring at delivery per NRP guidelines
Qualifications - External
What You Will Need:
Active and Current Florida State License as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for provision/supervision of respiratory clinical care responsibilities to age specific groups. Certified Respiratory Therapists at AdventHealth Orlando:
Are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary front-line patient care team in all areas of the hospital and work at the top of their license and Scope of Practice
Initiate, operate, manage, and discontinue pulmonary life support equipment
Work to reduce patient mortality/ICU length of stay through use of clinical and critical thinking skills.
Through patient evaluation, guided by protocols and prescriber care plans, modify the plan of care, up todiscontinuation of service for:
