Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Member Inclusion Specialist to serve members in Orange county. 

The anticipated hire date for this positions is December 2021. 

This position will allow the successful candidate to work a schedule which will include both onsite as well as remote work certain days of the week as approved by their supervisor.

The Member Inclusion Specialist performs professional advocacy work for members and family members.  The work will primarily serve to provide direct empowerment and support of members and their families who require services from the Alliance Health Plan.  This position will represent in meetings and public outreach the perspective of families and members who utilize services. The position is intended to improve the quality of life for members and families and will also work to measure that through personal outreach.

Responsibilities and Duties


  • Ensure member access to DSS, Ombudsman, and the Enrollment Broker. These connections are paramount to successful resolution of challenges and barriers in having members’ needs met.

  • Participate in meetings and bring the needs of members to the Director of Community and Member Engagement, Member Inclusion and Outreach Manager, the organization as a whole, and community stakeholders, regarding problems with access to or delivery of appropriate care. Employee will focus on advocating within the catchment area through local organizations.

  • Provide leadership and consultation in the area of Evidence Based practices. Provide information to committees and teams on Best Practices, Evidence Based Practice, laws, regulations and policies, and special legislation that impacts members and family members in order to provide current information and consultation.

  • Serve as a resource for educational opportunities, empowerment and satisfaction and quality of life issues for family members and guardians. Through general community contacts and response to family inquiries for assistance, provide consultation and guidance to family members in the interpretation of policy, regulations, services, rights, responsibilities, and other general information.

  • Assist in the development of educational materials as well as participate in the training process. Employee will be staff support for the Consumer/Family Advisory Committee or subcommittees and any other committee deemed necessary.

  • Measure the impact services and supports have on the quality of life for members and families served through various surveys and programs (i.e. Executive Walk Through, My Individual Experience, etc.).

  • Provide peer to peer support and accompaniment for community inclusion teams. Members and recipients identified through care plans and targeted populations (i.e. high-risk transitional care, PRTF’s, etc.)

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience with the population served. 

Or

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a Human Services or related field.

Special Requirement - The employee must be an openly declared individual or family member (past or present) of mental health, developmental disabilities or substance use disorder services.

Certified Peer Support Specialist or Family Peer Support certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A high level of diplomacy and discretion is required to effectively negotiate and resolve issues with minimal assistance from the Member Inclusion and Outreach Manager.  This will require exceptional interpersonal skills, highly effective communication ability, and the propensity to make prompt independent decisions based upon relevant facts.  Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are essential.

As a Member Inclusion Specialist, the employee must exhibit an extensive understanding of Alliance business and have considerable knowledge of community resources and services available to Alliance Members.  The ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with members, families, stakeholders and Alliance employees is necessary.  The ability to express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form as well as knowledge of cultural awareness and differences, and the ability to work with/or serve a diverse population is also needed.

Salary

$18.19 to $31.32/Hourly
