Claims API Technical Lead at Chubb

Job Description:

The API lead is responsible for designing and overseeing implementation of API solutions in alignment with architecture and product strategy. This role will lead and guide teams by defining reusable solutions, strengthening non-functional system behavior, and maturing the API lifecycle. Individual should have a demonstrated history of successful domain modeling, ideally translating disparate business and technical needs into cohesive APIs. The ideal candidate must have good understanding of API led enterprise solutions and be comfortable in all phases of software development. Candidate for this position must be able of playing different roles within the team, from skilled developer and technical team leader to consultant and technical evangelist. Insurance experience is a plus.

Primary Job Responsibilities


  • Implement end-to-end reusable and scalable Claims System integrations. Adhere to Information, Enterprise, and Application Architecture standards.

  • Provide technical leadership and direction on Agile teams implementing Claims Integration APIs.

  • Work closely with the Platform Architect to ensure implementation teams follow the reference architecture and roadmaps while enabling speed to market of solutions.

  • Support Agile implementation teams in refining and documenting development standards. Perform peer reviews to ensure alignment.

  • Drive quality of API based solutions through proper acceptance criteria as well as documentation and communication of normal behavior, failure modes, release notes

  • Assist Agile Scrum Masters in technical story development and sprint planning. Help the team to clarify their understanding, remove roadblocks and drive the team to close user stories on time.

  • Assist with Effort and cost estimations for Claims projects and technical solutions

  • Work with the overall delivery program facilitating proactive communication to stakeholders including issue resolution

  • Deliver conceptual and high-level technical designs that align with architecture direction and meet business needs, incorporating appropriate input from various platform specialists and domain experts.

  • Communicate effectively with development team, contractors, business users and IT managers to assist in the identification of application needs and to get buy-in to technical direction and strategy.

  • Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies.

  • Act as an internal mentor to agile team leads and developers on projects.

  • Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for process improvements

Technical Experience and Competencies


  • Experience in designing or using micro-services and API-based architectures at scale.

  • API design, Cloud/Hybrid technologies and concepts, event driven architecture.

  • Effective time management/prioritization, pushing team members to close impediments faster and proactively escalate when commitments have critical blockers 

  • Experience with C#, .Net Core in an enterprise API environment

  • Experience with using DevOps, continuous integration and automated testing with related tooling for delivery.

  • Familiarity with multi-tier application architectures.

  • Experience working in the Financial Services industry; P&C Insurance would be a plus.

  • Pro-active and creative approach to problem solving.

Partnership and Team Work


  • Good communication and leadership.  Must be able to provide guidance and feedback to technical resources (including contract resources) as well as managers.

  • Demonstrate strong ability to work in a team environment with the ability to influence and foster cross-team and cross-area collaboration.

  • Work with other tech leads and architects to ensure alignment with architecture strategy escalating deviation as needed.


  • Ensure documentation is captured appropriately and is easily accessible to the team members

Recommended Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (required)

  • Experience providing financial-industry business solutions (Insurance P&C experience is a plus)

  • Ability to execute and prioritize a number of tasks simultaneously

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal/relationship management skills and collaboration with stakeholders.
