Job Summary:


  • Performs general plumbing and assorted duties necessary to maintain, repair, or upgrade all facilities and structures.  Responsible for the equipment and tools necessary to perform such work.

  • Assemble, install, and repair pipe, fittings, and fixtures of hot and cold water and drainage systems.  Service, maintain, install, and test fire hydrants. 

  • The ability to perform both Fire Suppression and Backflow work.  

  • Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.

 Responsibilities: 


  • Performs a variety of plumbing trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to plumbing code.

  • Cuts openings in walls, floors, or ceilings to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.  Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, copper, and lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic by using power and hand tools.

  • Installs and/or repairs sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, faucets and burst pipes.  Opens clogged drains.

  • Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.  Inspects structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.

  • Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and threading machines.  Bends pipe to required angle by use of bending machine or by hand.

  • Join pipe by use of threaded joints, flanges, fittings, solder, plastic solvent welds.

  • Fill pipe system with water/air and read pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking

  • Maintain and repair plumbing by performing such tasks as replacing washers in leaky faucets

  • Use pipe locators to locate, identify, and mark sewer, and natural gas systems to prevent damage.

  • Responsible for the timely reporting of accidents, injuries, and “near miss” and hazardous situations

  • Assist other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations.

  • Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to diagnose, test and maintain systems maintenance

  • Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to particular trades or skills.

  • Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.

  • Performs other tasks as necessary an incidental to the required work as directed.

Work Conditions:


  • Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed.  Hours may vary.

  • On call  required for emergency and after hours events.

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors.  Outdoors work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.

  • Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed

  • Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels

  • Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclines, hand and soft-carpeted floors, cement and surfaces.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 8-15 years’ experience at Journeyman plumber level

  • High school diploma

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drug Test

  • Valid state driver’s license

  • General knowledge of hand and power tools

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • May be on-call at times given surge or emergency requirements,  with ability to respond to base emergency within 1- hour

  • All employees are required to war a mask while on shift. 

 

Desired Qualifications: 


  • Trade or tech school highly preferred

  • Perform grease trap, oil/water separator maintenance

  • Perform lift station with components maintenance

  • Perform gas regulator installation and repair

  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester training certified.

  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Repair and Maintenance Training certified.
