HVAC Mechanic FT Shifts - 48.92 at Akima, LLC

Responsibilties:



  •  Install., service and repair environmental-control systems in residences, warehouses and offices. Utilizing knowledge of the refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. Using hand tools, mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, following blueprints or engineering specifications and install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems.




  • Using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts. Using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape.



  • Using machine-threading or hand threading equipment cut and thread pipe. Using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions and solders joints. Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.



  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source. Install air and water filters in completed installation.



  •  Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.



  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to insure proper operation.



  • Using gauges or soap-and-water solution, test joints and connections for gas leaks.



  • Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands.



  • Using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment, replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units.



  • May install, repair and service air conditioners ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and other facility buildings.



  • Depending on surge requirements, may be on call at times.  


 

Minimum Qualifications:

All employees will be required to wear a mask while on shift. 

 

Education


  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or its equivalent. May be substituted with 5 years of direct experience in general maintenance and repair activities. Must be Certified to handle CFC.



Experience

General:          Requires 3 years experience in general HVAC maintenance and repair activities. Work includes preventive maintenance activities, assisting skilled trades workers and/or repairing various equipment and structures. Possess specific knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures used in HVAC maintenance and repair.

Specific:          Requires 3 years experience in general HVAC maintenance and repair activities or graduation from a two-year technical program and one year of HVAC experience. Mechanical and electrical aptitude with basic HVAC equipment. Good communication skills. Direction is received from Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.   

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


  • Working knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various trades such as mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

  •  Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the HVAC mechanical trade.

  •  Ability to perform semi-skilled work in a variety of HVAC mechanical trades.

  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and penciled layouts.

  • · Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to instruct and direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers.

Duties


  • Perform preventive maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment such as air handlers, refrigeration and air conditioning units, high and low pressure steam systems, HVAC systems, etc.; record meter and gauge readings; clean filters and oils motors; and replace belts, filters, switches, gauges, motors, etc.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair on chillers and related equipment.

  • Work with other skilled staff such as plumbers, electricians, etc. in performing complex maintenance, repair and HVAC construction activities.

  • Maintain and perform minor installation of controls for HVAC related equipment.

  • Perform logging operations using advanced instrumentation techniques.

  • Advise contractor of preventive maintenance inspections performed and corrective actions to be taken. Suggest additional service/renovation requirements.

  • Be familiar with the Quality Control/Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/CS actions are required.

  • Perform other related work as assigned.

 
Required Licenses and Certifications


  • Valid Drivers License with good driving record. 

  • Certified Class I and Class II Technician IAW Section 608 of the Clean Air Act and CFR Title 40, Part 82, Subpart F (Ozone Depleting Substances)

  • EPA Cetification for refrigerant
