The Customer Care Sr. Supply Chain Analyst is a pivotal role in the Medtronic supply chain. The role partners cross functionally with key Business Unit partners to drive Field inventory objectives. The SSCA helps to balance the Business Unit needs with Customer Care strategies to develop win-win solutions in achieving both organizations' goals, achieving regional strategy offerings and supporting unique business needs. This individual must be analytical, results oriented and highly organized with the ability to multi-task and have a readiness to adapt to changing field and departmental needs. The position requires a thorough knowledge of field inventory practices, SAP experience, customer service understanding, the ability to define and implement processes and metrics, solid understanding of Customer Care regulatory compliance requirements, and experience coaching and mentoring others.

A Day in the Life
Field Inventory Management Strategy 40 - 60%


  • Participates in the development of field inventory strategy to achieve business field inventory and SOGL goals primarily drive through Inventory Management Initiatives but could also be project-based efforts to drive specific action
  • Possesses strong team leadership, facilitation, and project management skills to formulate plans and drive efforts to completion
  • Develops credibility, trust, and respect from internal and external customers and is viewed as a key resource for supply chain expertise
  • Supports Field inventory strategy through report development and analysis and communicates strategy and offers direction to internal team
  • Identifies, trends, and monitors key performance metrics; Identifies metric exceptions that impact the business; Proactively elevates issues; partners with the BU to drive action appropriately
  • Looks for win-win solutions to meet BU needs while also driving the Customer Care Strategy
  • Takes initiative by not only identifying opportunities/issues but also developing business cases and alternatives

Supply Chain Daily Strategy 20 - 30%

  • Key partner in initiating, developing, and executing inventory and distribution management strategies to support daily case needs--partnering with GSC, US Sales, Sales Ops, Marketing, Distribution Centers and Customer Service. Strategic focus includes:

    • Improving product availability / product allocations and repositioning
    • Product launch, Phase In/Out
    • Executing product hold order or other field action activities
    • Ensuring short date usage/obsolescence prevention

  • Develops credibility, trust, and respect from internal and external customers and is viewed as a key resource for supply chain expertise
  • Identifies, trends, and monitors key performance metrics; Identifies metric exceptions that impact the business; Proactively elevates issues; partners with the BU to drive action appropriately
  • Develops appropriate messaging around supply constraints.
  • Possesses in-depth supply chain knowledge including each step in the value stream from forecast to manufacturing sites to end customers; Understands nuances of all product lines within their supported business(es)

Business Unit Team Leadership 10 - 20%

  • Provides daily direction, information, leadership, and coaching related to field inventory to Customer Care Supply Chain and Customer Service teams; leads team meetings and/or daily huddles
  • Trains/mentors team members within Supply Chain organization
  • Key representative Customer Care and America's Region initiatives engaging in projects, providing CCSC perspective and driving change management within the organization.

Development 20 - 30%

  • Proactively proposes ideas for process improvement and takes action to drive completion
  • Possesses intermediate knowledge of Business Objects, Access, Excel and develops high quality, timely, logical, and intuitive reports, and tools in partnership with the R&A team
  • Able to analyze data and present well-thought-out findings to leadership
  • Meets deadlines and drives results; proactively communicates and resets expectations when timeline is not achievable
  • Able to work flexible schedule as business needs dictate
  • Able to travel 5-10%

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Performs supply chain and logistics functions such as material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection and distribution.
  • Creates integrated processes among internal functions (e.g., operations, purchasing and logistics) and outside suppliers.
  • Plans and analyzes activities related to the timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning and quality control of production materials.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and implement solutions.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have

  • 2+ years Supply Chain / Inventory Management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, and/or Business Objects
  • Proven ability to develop and execute well-thought-out plans
  • Strong team leadership/facilitation and project management skills
  • Proven ability to proactively and positively collaborate in a matrix environment
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to produce high quality, timely, logical, and intuitive analysis/reports/ tools/scorecards
  • Strong ability to positively resolve conflict and drive win-win solutions
  • Ability to execute logically, calmly and efficiently in a chaotic and stressful environment
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally (written and verbal) with all levels; Strong presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of supply chain-related regulatory requirements and ability to assess procedures to current practices and resolve conflicts
  • Proven negotiation and influence management skills
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions independently
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; High flexibility to adapt to changing demands
  • Demonstrated ability to coach / mentor others and provide clear direction to teams
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs dictate especially at quarter end
  • ERP knowledge (i.e. SAP and Oracle)
  • Project management certification
  • Lean Sigma / DMAIC certification or experience
  • Experience working in medical device or healthcare industry
  • 2+ years Medtronic cross business unit experience and knowledge
  • Experience launching new products
  • Experience managing field inventory
