We are currently searching for an Open Source Community Manager to join our team, to help us tell the world about NGINX OSS - the projects we’ve created, the ones that we contribute to or support, as well as how we think about and value OSS..

You are passionate about open source technologies and the world of open source, living and breathing the OSS principles. You understand the importance of community to OSS, and how collaboration and openness lead to better solutions. You understand not only that OSS use increases agility, but more than that, it helps everyone build better technologies and a better world for everyone.

You have participated in developer/technology communities, and possibly contributed to OSS projects. You’re credibly knowledgeable about modern software development techniques, architectures, tools, principles, and technologies. You have high empathy for community members and are genuinely interested in teaching others.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and execute an OSS community development strategy for NGINX.

  • Reconnect with and grow our community through moderating and engaging on platforms and forums, both ours and third party ones such as StackOverflow and GitHub.

  • Identify and develop engaged community members, ensuring they’re connected with the right people within the company.

  • Coordinate with product teams at NGINX to support their OSS projects within the community.

  • Share insights and feedback from the community to product teams.

  • Promote community involvement within NGINX and build an engaged team to participate in our community.

  • Organize community events such as meetups and hackathons.

  • Work with the other members of NGINX community team to ensure our OSS community is recognized, celebrated, and nurtured.

  • Build measures and report appropriately on community development progress to stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in a community manager role.

  • Experience with leading or establishing a community around technology.

  • Experience building relationships with key influencers in the community, potential community members, and external community leaders.

  • Familiarity with Open Source technology and communities

  • Experience with OSS tools and projects like Kubernetes, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, and the like.

  • Experience with GitHub, IDEs, Unix systems, automation pipelines, and cloud technologies.

  • Knowledge of scripting, deploying networks and servers, application building.

  • Basic knowledge of a programming language such as JavaScript, Python or the like.

  • Knowledge of software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-directed and ability to work with minimal supervision.
