Sector Head Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing a team of Business Development and Key Account Management staff within a specified vertical market. The role executes DGF’s global, regional and country sector strategy as aligned with priorities. This position is responsible for the overall portfolio of strategic accounts, focused on driving the acquisition, retention and customer experience of a multi-national portfolio.


Key Responsibilities


  • Recruits, hires and provides coaching and development to account management staff. Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes.

  • Oversees sales revenue generation, profit and/or expense objectives for the account management function.

  • Develops sales plans and budgets for achieving sales goals within a defined set of key accounts.

  • Manages the key account planning process, develops and executes strategic plans (through subordinates) for all key accounts.

  • Assists account management representatives in maintaining and expanding critical accounts.

  • Identifies and pursues growth opportunities for key accounts.

  • Periodically visits key markets to investigate operations and local conditions.

  • May maintain personal responsibility for one or more key accounts.

  • Partners with other internal management to communicate sales problems, business observations, customer feedback, etc. 

  • Provides management with information used to evaluate strategic opportunities.

  • Regularly interacts with senior internal personnel on issues of major significance, often requiring coordination between organizational unit.

  • Consults with peers and top management in long-range company planning.

  • Builds cross-team effectiveness; fosters empowerment and involvement.

  • Regularly interacts with contacts outside DHL on broader, more strategic issues.

  • Drives quality and customer service.

  • Prime spokesperson to external customers, industry groups, and/or professional associations.

  • Leads initiatives and processes for business/functional area within overall area of responsibility.

  • Proposes policies, methods, processes, techniques for business function based on change initiatives.

  • Guides the successful completion of major programs across job areas or functions.

  • Manages operational plans and activities that result in accomplishing business strategies.

  • Supervises, coordinates and provides leadership to and reviews the work of managerial and senior professional level subordinates.

  • Creates workforce and staffing plans and ensures availability of human capital necessary to accomplish planned business results.

People


  • Directly supervises a staff of professional individual contributors at the senior or technical advisor level.

  • Directs performance planning, coaching, and evaluation.

  • Manages and responsible for results delivered for a major portion of profit center, line of business, business process or department as part of the executive team of a department or area.

Skills & Qualifications


  • Has extensive depth and breadth of expertise and experience in business/functional area as well as a wide and comprehensive acquaintance with and understanding of both general and specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.

  • Applies and/or develops highly advanced principles, theories and concepts.

  • Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.

  • Analyzes and resolves complex cross-functional issues.

  • Typically requires BS/BA (MBA preferred) in related discipline and 15+ years-experience in related field.  Professional certification required in some areas.
