What You Will Contribute:
This position is responsible for successfully managing multiple multi-million dollar AMI & AMR projects where Badger Meter has accepted turnkey responsibility for the implementation of a complete water metering solution. The Senior Project Manager will be the face of Badger Meter for these opportunities and be solely responsible for the successful delivery of customer-sponsored projects ranging from full turnkey projects to internal projects through the successful delivery of excellent customized service solutions. The Senior Project Manager will also lead by example by mentoring and coaching other Associate Project Managers and Project Managers on the team to ensure that they are also delivering projects with the same level of effort and success. While reporting to the Project Management Office Manager (PMO Manager), this position will work to ensure that all projects are managed with excellent execution. The ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, customers and sub-contractors is crucial to being successful in this position.
Major Job Duties/Accountability:
Plans and Manages the on-site implementation of multiple assigned turn-key contracts:
Understands project contractual obligations and ensures compliance.
Develops and directs overall project schedule while supporting and mentoring other Project Managers and Associate Project Managers on their own projects.
Generates and manages scope of work/project plans to be in accordance with contractual requirements/obligations.
Maintains project schedule, meets schedule deadlines and milestones.
Manages subcontractor(s) and subcontract(s) throughout the project as well as continuously looks to identify areas for cost savings and further develops good relationships with the existing sub-contractors Badger Meter is working with.
Monitor overall project progress and generate regular status reports - both internally and externally to all project stakeholders.
Meets, and when possible improves on project cost targets.
Forecasts accurate project revenues on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis for all assigned projects.
Reports on projects financial performance to stakeholders throughout the project as well as with a full financial analysis at project closure.
Manages assigned project resources both internally and externally.
Manage positive relationships with subcontractors and customers to achieve the best net promoter score possible.
Ensures quality & safety objectives for the project are achieved.
Documents all work in a timely and accurate manner - this includes but is not limited to email, meeting agendas and minutes, trip reports, monthly hourly reporting, expense reports, and any other reports as assigned and/or as they relate to a project.
Provides project leadership and motivates team members toward a common goal both internally and with subcontractors, distributors, and customer.
Obtain customer acceptance for all deliverables as well as substantial completion and final acceptance.
Protects project retainage collected on all projects to ensure no liquidated damages are incurred by Badger Meter on any situation that could be controlled and managed properly by the Senior Project Manager.
Gathers documents and reports on direct customer feedback to the appropriate internal channels as necessary.
Able and willing to travel up to 80% of the time which can at times be on short notice throughout North America with occasional international travel.
Provides appropriate pre-sale support for turn-key opportunities:
Partner with the sales teams across the nation (West, Central and East), Marketing, Engineering, and Bids/Contracts to assist with the development of responses to bids/quotes for turnkey opportunities.
Reads, comprehends and responds to customer RPF's by providing thorough, accurate and detailed responses as required to aid in the successful onboarding of new business opportunities.
Manages pilots/trial implementations as required and assigned by the PMO Manager.
Participate in customer presentations and meetings as required and assigned by the PMO Manager.
Support trade show and customer conferences as required and assigned by the PMO Manager.
Supports Turn-Key PM processes and Mentors new PM's:
Uses project management tools and standard methods provided for each project to provide consistent project management services.
Create and support turnkey PM processes for continuous improvement.
Complies with all reporting and metrics requirements.
Provide Cross Functional Support:
Supports ongoing product development by recommending changes to product hardware and software.
Assist in engineering tests or evaluations of new system components when part of a turnkey implementation.
Coordinates assistance from Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Sales in resolving product performance issues.
Provide support to the Marketing Department relative to beta sites and product support issues for pre-released products when part of a Turnkey implementation.
Communicates all suggested and/or required literature, procedure, and policy updates to the PMO Manager to assure the highest level of project success.
Interfaces regularly with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality, Accounting and Customer Care to develop optimum and approved resolutions to open issues.
Professional Development & Technical Competence:
Works with Manager, Field Support to create an individual development plan
Attends appropriate training and skill enhancement courses
Understand BMI AMI and AMR product lines
Achieve basic understanding of competitive products/systems
Keep abreast of changes in technology
Work with Technical Support Specialists to resolve product related questions
Ability to troubleshoot installed products and determine potential solutions
Ability to install AMR/AMI products in an OSHA approved manner (excludes installation of elevated product or vaults/confined spaces)
Has a working knowledge of Site Layout/Propagation study procedures and results
5 or more years of related experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Management, Project Management or any related field from a four year college
Ability to travel 70% of the time.
