If you are an experienced Machinist looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Emerson Chanhassen location, you will utilize your knowledge of machining and fixture design to create solutions that meet the needs of Manufacturing Engineers, and Production personnel in a Tool Room shop.  Our shop utilizes both manual and CNC equipment for fabrication in addition to CAD and CAM software for component and fixture designing and CNC programming of components.  You will also have the opportunity to work individually or as part of a team on Engineering projects.

AS A Machining Technician YOU WILL:

  • Be responsible to safely operate shop equipment as needed to complete required tasks

    • Manual and CNC lathes

    • Manual Vertical Mills and CNC vertical mills and machining centers

    • Surface Grinding, Saws, Drill presses, and Sheetmetal cutting and forming equipment

  • Utilize a PC to:

    • Complete CAD and CAM work

    • Communicate with other employees via email and chat

    • Use Microsoft Office tools as needed

  • Work from verbal or written instructions including:

    • 2D part drawing and assemblies

    • Red-lined drawings and sketches

  • Performs tasks of moderate complexity involving the fabrication, documentation, programming, compliance systems, and/or assembly of various devices and fixtures.

  • Performs tests of moderate complexity and records data.

  • Performs troubleshooting, calibration, failure analysis or modification of test hardware, fixtures, software, and lab equipment. This may include production or customer supplied equipment.

  • May perform design and drafting activities as required

  • Maintain shop equipment

  • Keep shop workspace clean and organized


You use your technical knowledge to evaluate and solve complex problems.  You can work with others to develop solutions to problems even when the path forward may not be clear.  You use your organizational skills to manage your workload and can adapt to changing priorities if needed.


  • 1800 hours of Machine Tool Technology education or equivalent

  • 3 years related work experience in Machining or Toolmaking field

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time


2-year degree in Machine Tool Technology

Knowledge of:

  • Creo (Pro-e)

  • MasterCam

  • CNC Programming and operation of Haas and Mitsubishi controls

Knowledge of custom manufacturing equipment design and building that includes

  • Mechanical and Electrical design and build

  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics

  • Vision systems

  • Machine Control systems
