JOB SUMMARY 

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL 

 

Global Psychological is seeking a passionate and motivated Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2021-2022 school year at the Taylor School District.

Depending on the needs of the district, the position may involve working one-on-one with students, or it may be in a classroom setting with a larger group of students.

The position would take place at either the elementary or high school. Elementary hours are approximately 8:15a-3:45p, and high school hours are approximately 7:15a-2:45p. With a 30-minute unpaid lunch each day, you would be paid for 35 hours per week, at a rate of somewhere between $18.00 and $22.00 per hour. The offered hourly rate would be based on previous experience in similar positions.


Summary: Under the direction of the Special Education Teacher, work in collaboration with the Special Education Teacher to support and assist with progress monitoring, one-to-one instruction, and small group instruction with students. Collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.  


  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students per specific timelines and communicate with the classroom teacher overall progress or interventions needed  

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and including course completion progress, ensure students have appropriate course syllabus for assigned courses  

  • Support and/or counsel students with academic issues and encourage students  

  • Participate in school meetings, student/parent meetings, and individual student advisory meetings as requested and required  

  • Regularly communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding students’ needs and academic progress in collaboration with classroom teacher and Principal.  

  • Assist the teacher in implementing the special education instructional program under the teacher’s direct or indirect supervision.  

  • Work with students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.  

  • Make and gather materials and resources for special education instruction.  

  • Use the following equipment, but not limited to computer, printer, copy machine, and assistive technology.  

  • Participate in building/network staff development training, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.  

  • Implement appropriate behavioral strategies.  

  • Meet with Special Education Teacher weekly to discuss progress, growth, and barriers.  

  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Certification:   

High school diploma and a minimum of 60 college credits. At least two years of related experience, preferably with school-aged children. Prior experience in a school setting is preferred.
