Job Description:

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive quality management to Proterra’s VP of Operations, Proterra Powered and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for leading quality for all Proterra Powered related products (battery and non-battery).

 About the Role – You will:

  • Lead quality for all Powered related products (battery and non-battery)

  • Manage a team of managers, engineers and technicians to develop and sustain world class quality systems

  • Responsible for all factory quality across all Proterra Powered facilities

  • Work closely with Advanced Quality Engineering department to launch new product successfully

    • Error/Mistake Proof

    • PFMEA/Control Plans

    • Incoming/Inline/End of Line inspections

  • Hire/Coach/Mentor a team of rock stars capable of working autonomously to sustain and improve the business

  • Manage all Powered related quality defects through Proterra’s corrective action process

  • Develop/maintain/improve critical KPIs that help monitor the quality of our products inline and end of line

  • Sustain and improve upon corrective action process ensuring support from all functional area of the organization (i.e., Design, Factory, Engineering, Supplier Quality, etc.)

  • Sustain all ISO/IATF/Proterra standards and be champion of change/improvement

  • Lead all customer/investor certification/supplier quality audits as required

  • Work closely with service to ensure all containment activities are effective and on-schedule

  • Standardize monthly analysis on quality issues by program (component failure)

  • Track and manage all customer rejections and ensure conformance to Proterra’s processes

  • Work closely with the factories to ensure all critical product characteristics are understood with training aids/plans

  • Work closely with validation/prototype/design team during development builds to track and understand all critical requirements

  • Lead the development of new processes as it relates to Proterra Powered Quality

  • Manage the program management of Proterra Operations team to achieve all customer required Quality Process Requirements (as it related to quality)

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Quality team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations.

  • You will report to the VP, Proterra Powered Operations and collaborate with other Strategic Partnerships team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.  

  • Location open to either LA, GVL

Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field or relevant equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of related experience in the automotive industry

  • 6+ years of related experience in Manufacturing Quality

  • Advanced knowledge of quality disciplines (ISO), lean manufacturing techniques, and process/procedure development and documentation

  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office applications

  • Advanced communication skills including group presentations

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees

  • Proven ability to prepare complex written reports and other documents.

  • Practical experience in Program Management

  • Prove ability to lead complicate programs that require cross functional support and input

  • Desire/ability to drive improvements

 Location: Greenville, SC or Los Angeles, California


Travel: ~25% (to Proterra locations and customer locations)
