Mercer's Career business is seeking candidates to join our Human Resources Transformation team in the following position, based in our San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Seattle office:



Human Resources (HR) Transformation Senior Associate Consultant

What can you expect?



As a HR Transformation Consultant you will:


  • Support medium and large clients, often in a project manager role, or as team member managing project delivery


  • Act as the day-to-day contact for the client, overseeing the development of client deliverables (e.g., defining expectations, creating framework, and establishing templates for deliverables)


  • Perform and/or direct the analysis of various sources of data/information including: current-state HR operations, survey results, service delivery models, HR technology landscapes and processes


  • Perform projects across the spectrum of the HR Transformation solution set, including: HR operational assessments, HR technology landscape assessment, pre-HCM-implementation readiness, and process redesign


  • Lead stakeholder interviews, facilitate discovery sessions, review/present project findings, engage/consult with senior leadership, and conduct working sessions as part of project engagements


  • Conduct research or gather data/information to be utilized in the analysis and development of proposed client solutions


  • Develop presentations, reports, or documents displaying recommendations that are used to facilitate the decision-making process by clients


  • Review the quality and accuracy of deliverables from more junior consultants


  • Assist with business development including proposals and client relationships


  • Act as a mentor and coach by motivating junior staff to deliver high-quality work


  • Delegate effectively to provide developmental opportunities to junior team members

We will count on you to:



  • Provide subject matter expertise: You get HR, from hire to retire. You perceive it from strategy to delivery. You know what systems work, what don't, and when a person will do it better than a machine ever could. If asked to build a better organization model, you'll build three and then identify the best. If tasked with designing a better candidate experience, you'll tackle the problem from the top to the bottom of the funnel. Insource or outsource payroll - You have an opinion and the data to support it.


  • Call on your consulting experience: You dream about getting complicated projects done. The idea of breaking a problem down into pieces, figuring out who does what and when, pondering 'what does success look like' - You really enjoy this stuff. And you do it really well. Companies and colleagues look to you to scope out the hard projects. And you can draft and drive a PowerPoint deck like nobody's business. But mostly, you go home at night - really tired but knowing that you tackled some really difficult challenges today and provided something of value, guided by insight and tailored through experience. And you're ready to do it again tomorrow.


  • Provide leadership: Not of a big organization or a large group of people. But, in the projects to which you're assigned, you play an important leading role. Your client has a concern? You help solve it. Project short staffed? You find a resource. Final deliverables not ready? Time for you to get into the trenches with your team and lead the way out.





What you need to have:



  • At least 8+ years of either external and/or internal consulting experience related to successful delivery of HR Transformation projects for large organizations


  • Excels at herding cats, including at least 5 years of proven experience as a program manager, managing large scale project engagements with multiple workstreams


  • Perceives problems as a Rubik's cube, as complexity to be ordered through relentless problem solving and determined effort until all the colors on all the sides match


  • A storyteller who can observe an immensely complicated system, gauge the interactions of immensely complicated groups of people, and out of that discern a coherent storyline that paints a path to a future better way


  • Calm in a storm, one whom others look to for stability when the stress is high and emotions are not
