Sterile Processing Technician - per diem at Huggins Hospital

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Sterile Processing, is responsible for receiving, re-processing all soiled, used and/or contaminated instruments, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Technician disassembles, inspects, cleans and re-processes instrumentation and equipment per regulatory requirement and instructions for use.
This is a per diem position
Responsibilities
1 Receives, disassembles, and decontaminates instruments and equipment used in
surgery and patient care area per manufacturer requirement
2 Chooses appropriate method of decontamination, prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies for sterilization according to manufacturer requirement
3 Assembles instrument sets per printed set lists
4 Wrap, label and place chemical indicators
5 Continuously assess the integrity of sterile packaging
6 Collaborate with surgical services leadership to ensure proper sets available for all scheduled surgical procedures
7 Operates decontamination equipment adhering to strict quality control standards and manufactureres requirements
8 Performs, interprets and documents biological indicator results on all loads. Notifies supervisor when indicators are out of range
9 Utilizes appropriate recording charts for all sterilization cycles
10 Solutions are mixed, labeled, monitored and exchanged according to manufacturer requirements
11 Performs preventive maintenance on hospital-wide patient care equipment according to manufacturer's instructions
12 Promptly notifies appropriate personnel for repair or replacement
13 Distributes equipment, instruments, and supplies processed by Central Sterile, following identified schedule
14 Cross trains to other duties as needed to promote flexibility, sustainability and teamwork within the Critical Access Hospital setting
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: Effectively organize work and set priorities; Positive attitude; Applicable knowledge related to safe work conditions; Works effectively within the healthcare team. Computer literacy
If experienced, certification will be expected within one year of hire. Certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or similar accredited agency, within 18 months of hire if no experience.
